*cue the Budweiser "Real Men of Genius" jingle from a few years ago*
Whoever came up with the concept for Trans Siberian Orchestra is an evil genius. Congrats on taking the remnants of a middling prog metal band, and managing to turn it into something my mom would pay $250 to see in concert. Fucking genius.

Additionally, I think they actually have multiple lineups/interchangeable members who can tour different parts of the country. I remember a few years back Alex Skolnick from Testament was doing some legs of their tour and Testament had to work their touring schedule to acomodate TSO.

Yep, this is precisely the case. And note that there's no question as to which band takes precedence when there's a conflict, because one is "a pretty successful thrash band experiencing something of a second wind in their career," and the other is "a cultural phenomenon on the level of Cirque du Soleil in tuexdos."
TSO, you have my respect and loathing:

It's funny that you mentioned your mom liking them in your initial post. Mine does too and she always asks me if I can play Christmas songs on the guitar the way they do.

you probably can - but I bet she wouldn't like it near as much
(not a knock on you - but an in her face guitar would be nothing like the full TSO experience)

Well, it would be hard for one man and one guitar to accurately depict the sound of Savatage raping Mannheim Steamroller.
