Mountain

Post by soundgardener75 »

While still uploading all of them ZZ Top cds, I realized through 100 Watt that I'm unfamiliar with Mountain, other than Mississippi Queen.

I take it that the 70's albums is where it's at for this band?

Educate me bros.

"Mississippi Queen" is their only well-known song for a reason. Leslie West was an awesome player with some of the best tone of the era (his is the tone Jimmy Page should have had, but rarely did), but Mountain was mediocre.
"If there was only a way that I couldn't even any less than I already can't then I'd gladly not, but I think I've entered some quantum paradox, dark matter levels of can't evening where the total absolute value of not evenness exceeds all ability to explain the can'ting." - MR RUBATO

Leslie West is a tone God

My personal favorite track is "Theme from an Imaginary Western". 2nd solo I ever learned. The guy oozez feel.

Other tunes to check out Never in my life, Nantucket Sleighride, Kings Chorale, For Yasgur's Farm and Don't look around.

Here's a live version of theme....btw, written by Jack Bruce of Cream :thu:

Solo greatness starts at 2:45

We're going to have to start a Heavy Boogie thread. So this can all be one long conversation about pretty much the best era of Rock.

I've tried to get into Mountain and while "Mississippi Queen" ranks as one of my favorite songs of all time (and along with Steppenwolf got me into "heavy" music at a young age, hey, I was sheltered) I can't really say I enjoy most of their other stuff.

A song here or there are ok, but overall, eh.
Main Guitars: Gibson SG Classic, Agile AL3100, Fender Blacktop Telecaster
Amps: ACC150 (x2), Peavey VTM120, JCM600, Peavey Bravo, Yamaha THR5
Cabs: Mesa Halfback 2x12, Peavey 1810, Randall RS125CX
