Re: NAD (a few weeks ago)... Diezel D-moll
I'll have to listen with better speakers another time. The mids sounded like they cut really well, but the low end sounded like it lost shape with speed. That it's likely the recording, though.
I'm most disappointed that there aren't updated cave pictures for me to drool over.

I don't like a super tight low end. I like a bit of sag and this amp has it. Those strings were old too so that may have something to do with it.
I will do an updated gear post soon. I have a bunch of stuff in our gear trailer from our show last week so the jam room needs to be re-assembled first.
I did just put V30's in one of my Splawn cabs and Scumback BM75-LD's in the other. No offense to Splawn cuz I love their stuff but I do not love Eminence speakers so those cabs just slay now (they had MoW/Govs in one and Small Block/Big Blocks in the other).

I've yet to hear an Eminence speaker that I like.

Oh, ok. I read nakedzen's comment before I listened and didn't read that yousaid there wwasn't sharp attack. It does sound big and mean. I'm in love with my Weber speakers, which are blood of the same vein as the scumbacks, so I can see why you would make another swap. The clip you posted a while ago with the m75 and roccaforte made me want to get something similar.

I must be in the minority...I thought that didn't sound all that great. Sounds like a solid state amp to me or a distortion pedal, at least in the pick attack and mids.
I tried out a Herbert when I bought my Diezel cabs and I kinda heard a solid state-ish or hi fi sound with the Herbie, but this seems more pronounced to me.
I listened to your other clips and they sound similar, so I'm assuming it's how it's miked or the tones you generally go for, so that's more of a subjective thing rather than the amp I suppose.
great rhythm playing!

You're not alone, I thought the same thing the first time I heard that vid in a different thread. It sounds fuzzy, like a distortion pedal

You should try the M75's and K100's together if you haven't already. It may activate a lady boner.

dude THANK YOU so much for this recommendation. sounds amazing in the mako. the scumbacks have that perfect crunch and break up while the k100s keep the clarity and low end. i never doubted you but it sounds like an odd combo until you hear it.

I think my clips in general sound a bit compressed. Partly the tone I must go for but partly the software maybe. Not sure. Either way, thanks for checking it out. After playing with bands using SS amps this weekend, I don't think this one sounds at all that way but again, that is just my opinion.

Haha. I was never a huge fan of the K100 but I have one in that little Ear Candy cab that I have been using for clips and it is growing on me. My other Scumback loaded cab has M75/H75's (65 watt) in it and I doubt i will change it because I love how it sounds (and freaking hate swapping speakers).

I didn't mean it in a negative way...This clip has, er, "spitty" mids, which kinda resemble what I hear in SS amps or distortion pedals running into a clean channel. Hard to explain.
But in hearing your other miked clips I hear it in those too, so I'm inclined to think it's the signal chain used to both play and record, the tonal desires of the rigs you use and/or settings, etc.
But of the other clips youve posted, I've liked those amp tones better, personally.

I didn't take it as negative. Just constructive criticism.

I am going to do more with other amps close mic'd so I will be curious about your feedback with those as well. I used to use condenser mics in the room and have recently started using 57's and close micing one 2x12 cab. I like the overall tone better but I am learning. I use a mac and an Apogee Duet and I don't spend much time on it so I am sure there is tons of room for improvement.

Im not a fan of anything outside of the Legends from eminence. Ive tried too many of their speakers to ever try anymore...however, the legends are my favorite speakers to date. I do dig k100s, and I have yet to try scumbacks.

One day itll click, and then all of a sudden your recorded tones will be great and very consistent. I struggled for almost 2 years before it just started working and I felt like I knew what I was doing.

woohoo sounds great Laura. It actually sounds a lot like an Einstein but a bit tighter and more focused, but it has that same high end sizzle.

Re: NAD (a few weeks ago)... Diezel D-moll
Thanks for Jnurp and Raf, it gets better each time. I just don't have the time (or patience) to make it sound like some clips that I hear and think, "WOW". Maybe I will stumble into it but I think I would have to upgrade my recording software just for starters and I have a heck of time learning new programs. Maybe my kids could learn that part, and I could just learn to play.
