Re: Fire and Water
I've always loved his voice.
It's perfect for skanky Rock&Roll like this.

Re: Fire and Water
In England, Paul was known as "The Voice." Gat damn he sounds great. Still does. He even sounded great with Queen a few years back.
Re: Fire and Water
Kossoff's vibrato is so fucking strange. Its super fast but still pretty wide. It almost sound slike fluttering a floating trem. If it was anybody else I'd find it annoying but when he does it its awesome. I read that Clapton actually asked him to show it to him cause even Clapton was like, "WTF is goin' on there?!?!"

He's like a smoother Rod Stewart. He can get that Killer rasp. But then when he backs off, it's silky smooth.
Rod can't do that.
With that voice, the bitches must just fall at his feet.

lol! I have been trying to nail it for a while now (might need heavier guage strings

Seriously though a very weird approach but it is unique for sure - also his tone in general has a "moan" to it that is so fucking cool.

I gotta dissect this real quick..
1. That wasn't Fire and Water.

2. Was this from Bonamassa's Live at RAH DVD? If so, I always forget about this part. I guess I haven't actually seen the whole performance
3. I'm pretty sure thats Kossoff's original Les Paul though I could be wrong...
4. Bonamassa is straight channeling Kossoff here. Even his vibrato is trying to get there... And how much better is Bonamassa when he stops putting 1,000 notes in every lick? (I've heard him say the same thing about himself) He sounded phenomenal here. One of my favorite performances I have seen from him.

I could see not liking Bad COmpany... But hating on The Voice?!? Does she know them is fightin' words?!?

Well said brother! I love Rod Stewart with Beck and Faces. Awesome rock 'n roll. Then the late 70's hit...

Spot on about the "moan." I know exactly what you mean. I thought about trying to cop that vibrato, but I have worked long and hard to get my vibrato to slow down, so I'm afraid if I start practicing this I'll fuck it all up again.

Fucking Disco

70s' Heavy Boogie is pretty much the best shit there is. Killer songwriting with crushing loud guitars. There is so much of it I don't know. Even at my, um, experienced age. This thread should be re-titled "The GAB Heavy Boogie Thread:Stupid Fucking Kids Get In Here And Learn Something Worthwhile Now".

That was from the Beacon Theater DVD. Overall I like the RAH one better but this one is good too... The Paul Rodgers part was one of the highlights. Bonamassa is getting it done right as well - totally agree about channeling Kossoff... great stuff.

Damn but I still love the heavy boogie groove. It still pops up from time to time, and it's a treat when I hear some band reboot it.
Too many fine bands from those days became known only for the two (wrong) songs that got all the airplay. Gems on those B-sides, and in this thread.

I've been working on Hybrid Picking riffs in this vein lately. I've got try to get it organized.
It's super fun.
I'm so going to cop that riff.
