Here's my version of an Ampeg SB-12 bass amp. I built this around 1999/200.

The complete build pics are at this link --->

This is a referbish/rebuild of a 1955 Gibson GA-15 amplifier. A friend brought this to me after his Grandfather had it in storage for about 15-20 years. Initially it was to replace the dried out and cracked power cord. When I opened it up the insides were a mess and couldn't be salvaged. The elyctrolytics were shot and just about all of the carbon resistors were out of tolerance and some were open. I removed just about eveything, made a turret board and used the original schematic to rebuild the circuit and stuff the board.

We saved all the original components. I built a new cabinet, covered ion Snakeskin per his request (not my thing) and we saved the original cabinet as well. The original speaker was a good working Jensen P12N which we reused. This amp is a lot like a Tweed 5E3 Deluxe, but with cooler tone IMHO.

After the rebuild was completed my friend asked me to add reverb, so I mounted the reverb circuit in an external chassis box and mounted it to the inside bottom of the cabinet. This way I didn't bastardize the original circuit and it can be removed in a matter of minutes if desired. I did this project in June of 2001.

My 1968 ampeg rocket 2. The blue diamond tolex had seen better days so I rebuilt the cabinet out of hardwood. It really tightened up the bass response as well.

Josh, I love the detail in that wood. Great craftsmansip in the cabinet construction, dovetails are beyond my ability to do corectly, so I stick with simple 1/2" box joints. Do you have a picture of the back as well?

Thanks Casey4s, pics of the back are at the end of the build thread linked here: http://www.atlas-stands.com/index.php/f ... -combo-cab

I learned real quick that if I'm using a jig to do dovetail joinery it is best to drill out most of the waste wood and clean up with the router. As far as hand sawing dovetails, I still need a decent dovetail saw.

Thanks a lot! :thu:

I've got great some ideas i want to try, re-designing the circuit with some tricks. I don't plan on keeping it stock for long! Will be fire breathing when i'm done with it! :nerd:

When I have finished with my changes, and if there is interest, I will be looking into making my mod availible!

Here is a clip of the stock amp, boosted with an Maxon OD808

I did this guitar from Warmoth parts.

Image

Here's a couple of amps...

This is the Jubilee clone. I sourced the boards and the chassis from Ceriatone because, well, they had them lol.

Image

This is a superlead build...

Image

The funky little thing on the right side is a powerscaling setup which I never got to work properly. I eventually got pissed because I bought it, and the "directions" were laughable so I called what's his name who invented it and all he pretty much had to say was "spend hundreds more and buy all my books and they explain it all in depth" which pissed me off because I understand completely how it works. For some reason it wasn't lol.

Image

This is the other side of the heatsink. I ended up pulling the powerscaling stuff out and patching the hole.

Image

This particular build I sourced most of the stuff from Mojotone, Mouser, and Valvestorm.

Image

Image

I could have sworn I had pix of the 2203 I did a while back but I can't find them.

Just a couple of odds and ends from me. Forgive all the Lester shots in the kitchen. My apartment complex decided that 130v/75W Flood Lights are a great installing from a Truss Bar in my unit . Makes for a great photo op though.

I refinished my 2000 LP Classic Plus eight months ago in Nitro. Hand stained everything and applied the sunburst by hand using a fade in technique. Nothing on this guitar is original except for the bridge and tailpiece which feel/sound great. Sheptone Blue Sky in the Neck (I just wax potted it) and a Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell in the Bridge. Drilled a mini switch for series/coil/series-parallel but I swapped that for a 2 way series/parallel switch. The Neck also has a treble bleed circuit as well. Think poor man's Jimmy Page. Not my cleanest wiring job but it's dead quiet and solid.

Here's my Neck pickup after I wax potted it. Not a major mod, but it helps.

Patch Bay on my board that Bob Savage built. I need to wire it up still.

Three amps I've built this spring: a cathode biased Dlx.Rev., a Badger-ish thing (will change that soon into something else) and the purple one was a Cornfordish amp, but I've changed that to "my circuitry".

Hi Neil.

@ liam: I'd supply the bias directly from the standby switch (and not from the diode). You should supply the tubes with bias voltage before turning on the B+ . . .
