Total recording noob with GarageBand! How to record guitars?

Post by Benellerguitars »

That pretty well says it! Just got a Mac with GB on it. I've had a lot of fun with the drum and synth stuff, but I'm not into the guitar tones they've got on there. I have an M Audio Mobile Pre interface. How should I go about plugging in and getting some good guitar tones going on? Thanks!

plug the interface into the USB and it should all be automatic. It may ask you if you would like to use it for your audio device, then click "yes". then you can either grab a microphone (shure sm57 is a great start) and mic up your cab or use software like amplitube or peavey revalver (i do not use these plugin, perhaps someone else could add to this?).

I'm not in front of my Mac now but there should be a place in the preferences or options for GB that allows you to say what you want to use as your sound input and output. Once your interface is installed you should see it as an option there. I can't remember the deal to get it to work with an external plugin off the top of my head but I remember setting up Ez Drummer was pretty simple.. I'm 99% sure if you do a search on youtube.com you'll get a video showing the configuration.

When Garagebands is open, go to the GB menu (after you have installed the appropriate software drivers for the M audio of course). Select preferences and your M Audio device should show up under Audio Input. Select it and go from there. I use an Apogee Duet and 57 mics for clips.

In GB you open a new file, select new basic track, get your settings the way you want them and go... I am not tech savvy at all and it was pretty easy for me if that helps.
