New Bruce Bouillet - The Order Of Control - Anybody pick up?
Downloaded the new album this weekend. Pretty sick! Always loved his style, and the new one doesn't disappoint!
James Lugo over at RT mixed it.

Sounds pretty awesome. If I was still into instrumental shred, I might buy it.

He doesn't really shred, he's pretty tasteful. I expected shred, but was pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, I gotcha. In all seriousness, the shred instrumental stuff isn't as popular to me anymore either. I do like Paul Gilbert, usually, and a small handful of others. It does get old pretty quick.

Agreed. I'm kinda more into the Slash/early Dave Mustaine style of leads these days.

I've been listening to a lot of Loomis, Merrow, Andy James stuff lately, so I'll have to look into this more. It sounds plenty awesome.

I have it (put a post up in music about it) I think it is an awesome release. I mean AWESOME.
IDK if I'd really call this shred. Yes Bruce is a monster player, but all the pieces are well crafted songs and the solos fit the context of the pieces.
Shred to me is just puerile progressions for someone to run their finger drills over, barely have any melodic sense of their playing, defend that poor musicianship as playing outside, and act like you're the cro-mag for being able to play with or over a progression rather than THROUGH the progression like them.
Yeah I'm a huge Racer X fanboy, spent many an hour playing along with Scarified, Motorman, Streeth Lethal, Into the Night and such...

I have both of Loomis', a couple James as well. James is an awesome guitar player, but it gets old pretty quick. Seems like you hear one solo, you've heard them all. Incredible though, and he admits to big Gilbert influence. Loomis kills!

Looking forward to checking this out... Bruce is a killer player!

Anytime I listen to a new instrumental rock guitar album (I won't split hairs over what's "shred" or not), I brace myself for awful guitar tone.
This pleasantly surprised me.
This pleasantly surprised me.

Let's face it, if when you are the lead guitar you're dialed in to be heard/cut through the clutter middle/upper frequencies. If you weren't that attention whore lead singer beating out of time on the tambourine would over power our solos!
I always thought that Paul Gilbert's tone was a good balance of the a lead and rhythm guitarist's tone.
The tone on this release from Bruce is
