Those first three with Ozzy was memories of my early n00b days. He was the reason I knew about Lee Jackson's work and amps. :thu:

for some reason i liked the zakk era stuff the best, i guess its just a zw thing for me because im a huge BLS fan.
i like the jake and randy stuff too but im kinda burnt out on the RR era stuff but still listen to the batm album a few times a month. im not the biggest fan of ozzy, theres bands i liked alot better growing up.

Randy Rhoads. Not even close. I was lucky enough to meet Randy in a record store in NYC and got to chat with him for about 30mins. Down to earth, humble guy.

I wondered if Randy really cared for his tone? He seemed like the type of guy who just wanted to play guitar and rock out.

I'd say he was a perfectionist who wanted to hear exactly what he was playing. His tone is a lot stiffer and less forgiving than other speedy players of that era - for example, taking away nothing whatsoever from EVH's playing, his tone was all liquidy and compressed. Randy had this really chirpy attack that would intimidate the hell out of me to try and shred with.

Personally, based on the live footage I have seen and the Tribute album, I thought Randy's live tone was way better than his studio tone. I think the more hollow sounding studio tone he had was a result of the mixdown by the producer.

Anyway, I voted Randy on this poll. Jake is a very close second. I like Zakk's work on the first 3 Ozzy records he did. He is a talented guy, and I used to be way into his playing, but BLS got stale after a few albums. Plus his whole biker image annoys the shit out of me. Gus G rules when he plays in his own band Firewind, but $haron is paying him to ape Zakk. :(

Also, it's a shame Holmes never got to cut an album with Ozzy. Saw Ozzy live with him on guitar a couple of times. That dude can play.

It is a shame Joe Holmes didn't get a chance. Ozzy was too hung up on Zakk's playing. I was excited to see where he'll take Ozzy's songs after Zakk.

It was interesting too that he rocked a Strat, to which Ozzy hated and he said he liked the sound of Gibsons more. Jake E. rocked a Charvel you fucking asswipe!  :loon:

Should be Iommi, no? So this is Ozzy the band, not Ozzy the dude? Either way, the only guitarists that matter where this is concerned are Iommi and Rhoads - in that particular order.

And that's all I gotta say about that.

I am still the only vote.. You must vote for Ozzy Sucks. :)

I voted for Jake. Unfortunately "Ozzy sucks & Jake E. Lee is my favorite Ozzy guitarist" was not an option.

:lash:

Would have been my vote exactly

Actually a tough call.. I know Randy gets heralded as one of the greatest ever, but i don't hold him that high.. But Diary of a Madman is a great album.. Jake was tight as shit and the Ultimate Sin was great.. And good ole Zakkk was absolutely ripping it up on No rest for the Wicked.. And those are the only 3 Ozzy albums I'll ever listen too. . Basically, Ozzy must have a horse shoe up his ass to have 3 killer records with 3different guitarists who all great in their own right.. I don't even count Gus G..

The ultimate sin was the first Ozzy record i ever heard so I'm leaning towards that, but i think the best album is Diary, so I'll give it to Randy despite what i just said...lol

Obviously the answer is Iommi, then Rhoads. I picked Zakk though, based on time in service. I like 'em all though, you gotta admit he has a knack for hiring good guitar players.

Tony Iommi, followed by Randy, then Wylde.

Rhoads was the best of them IMO and well Iommi is a legend, but not included in this topic. No one except Iommi had more influence on metal guitar as Randy did!! The others that followed Randy were great, and I like all of them, but they were no where near as legendary as Randy IMO. Just listen to the track "Diary of a Madman". Nuff Said!!!!
