Dead heat between the first two options.

In my main band I currently use a Sovtek MiG50H Tube Midget, basically a master-vol JCM 800 (into a 4x12). But previous to that I used my '66 Super Reverb (4x10) w/distortion pedal.

My favorite is the cranked Fender with a dirt pedal. My Blues Deluxe sounds great when breaking up and any dirt pedal sounds good with it. A Rat sounds great with it. Obviously the cranked part is the hard part. Things are so loud.

So hard to choose. I love both boosted Marshall, and cold cathode type amps pretty much equally. I guess cold cathode by a hair, for high gain at least.

Marshall type for sure. Mesa Mark type would be a close second.

Cool! I wish I still had the Tube Midget I sold a few years ago. Killer rock & roll amp, for sure. I just wished it had a loop, but still ... :-BD

Herbert...kinda a toss up between EQ Freak and Cold Cathode.

I'm pretty sure it's a cold cathode design...but it's definately an EQ freak with the Mid cut/boost and the overall voicing.

I've also played a couple great modded marshalls which do their own thing.

I think you should have multiple amps...one for each of the basic topologies which speak to you.

im a big fan of the mark iv and v, i like metallica tones and these amps give me what i need.

but im also a fan of the herbert and uberschall.

and i grew up listening to marshall tones and most of my favorite players played on marhsalls.

so i have a hard time choosing haha.

JCM 800 style gain does it for me. But I really also love the driven Fender or Mesa 6L6 type gain sounds too.

I love listening to all of those types equally. I prefer playing with Mark-style gain; I feel as though I have the best control of the sound.

My favourite recorded distorted tones are solid state Randall's. Nothing sounds heavier than Crowbar. That tone on "sonic excess in its purest form" is just massive.

I voted Marshall, but I do like me some Recto high gain -- especially from my Tremoverb.
