Just scored a righteous deal on a minty looking 1979 JMP 2204. This is my absolute favorite amp of all time. I had one years ago that was stolen when my ex decided to take the car to the mall when it was still loaded with band gear and some unscrupulous types decided to smash the window and take it!
The other guitarist in my main band has owned a late 80's JCM800 2210 for years, but his favorite amp of all time is the JCM800 2204, so he is selling his 2210 and buying the 1988 JCM800 2204 that I just got a few weeks ago from me. It'll be nice to know that amp is staying in the family!
I'll post pics and whatnot when the amp arrives. Here's a pic from the seller though:
Merry Christmas to me!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean you can’t argue with another awesome Marshall!

1979 Marshall JMP 2204 has arrived. Definitely needs a service, but man is it ever gonna be great once that's done. It has old glass RCA 6550 tubes. Preamp tubes are an old Mullard in V1, an RCA in V2, and an old Sovtek in V3. Very very cool that original owner didn't swap those out for modern tubes.
The headshell is in great shape, especially considering it'll be 45 years old in February. The amp needs a bias and the two back feet are broken (I'm currently hunting down proper replacements). Other than that, this thing looks REALLY clean to me!

Damn dude!!! That's awesome!!! It seems to be completely stock and untouched, which is hard to find these days. And you got a good $400 worth of tubes there. These RCA 6550s are worth a pretty penny.
For service, I can't recommend Pete Cage enough. He's by far the best vintage amp tech I've worked with. He's in Damascus so it's a bit if drive for you but totally worth it. .

Thanks man…my guy IS pretty amazing and since all I’m going in for is tube testing, bias, and confirmation that all is well, I think I’m okay to get this done down here on the Eastern shore.

Around 1991 a guy left one of these at our drummers house and I had the chance to play it for a while. At that time, coming from a Carlsbro ss-amp this was en eye-opening experience and these perfect Strat crunch tones are somehow still haunting me as the Marshalls that I owned so far did not deliver the same great dynamics and crunch qualities the old JMP had. Probably I am glorifying the amp because of generally good memories but I can totally relate to tagging these old JMPs as all time favorites.
It was sounding good upon arrival...now that it's with Cage Amplifiers (thanks for the tip, Billy!) for the full look through, bias, etc, I expect it to truly rage upon its return!
