MOAR SYNERGY CLIPS!!

Post by NinjaRaf »

Obviously one of the benefits of the Synergy shit is to record direct, for people who like doing such things. I have always struggled a bit with it, partly because I don't feel like putting in the effort when I spent the last 15 years learning how to mic shit lol. But still...Eric told me about this Celestion speaker plugin in thing, so I got the demo to check it out, and I think it might be worth paying for...Here are some clips, same piece of a song using each of the modules that I have.

EDIT: Updated number 3 motherfuckeerrrrrrrsssss!! I ended up buying this plugin, and updated the clips using a V30 and Redback speaker for each guitar track.

Guitars all have some EQ to control the low end and dip down the upper mids every so slightly, and they all have an instance of the Apogee EQP-1A plugin to give it that little sumpn sumpn.

These are all my Bauer strat with Duncan Omega. This pickup man...it is the fucking shit!! I love it. All tracks going DI into my RME Fireface.

Anyway, all this shit is killer! I absolutely love the Synergy stuff, I love this guitar, these tones are fucking great!! Pretty sure I will buy this thing. You have to buy it to get the Redback speaker, and I kinda want that. Though the demo is working rather well, it is limited for sure. Supposedly you can load your own IRs? Or maybe I understood that wrong. I can't figure out how to do that. Not sure if it's locked in the demo version.

Mark VII: https://app.box.com/s/dqid70pcn96zh3msnsuxhqtpjp98espc

Added note: I did exchange my UL module for a 6505 module, but that thing is already on the way back to SW to swap for the BB/BE module. I should've known because its the original 6505, which for me I never really liked that much. Too loose and brash. Although, without the Peavey power section, it sounded like my old bias modded 5150BL...so if you are getting into Synergy and want that sound, definitely get it. I guess I was hoping that it would be tighter than the actual amp since through the PA50, the Uber and PB modules are slightly tighter than the actual amps. But whatever...I just need to get a Savage module to try out eventually, but really the PB module fucking blows me away every time I play it, so meh lol.

Sounds great! I have no recording skills so much respect to those that can make really good sounding clips.

Interested in what you think of the BB/BE. I am going to sell the BE module I have. It sounds good but I like a bit more cut than most Friedman's that I have tried were able to deliver. Probably why I like the SLO module as much as I do.

I bought it for the BB side. I don't see myself using the BE side very much at all.

All 3 clips sound great but I would say the IICP sounds much weaker than the others here, like it needs a boost or something? Still a great tone though. The Uber was my favorite of the 3. Thanks for sharing!

I think they all sound great! Although I do think they all do sound very similar. You can tell the IICP is less saturated, but they all have similarities.

Would you say the 6505 has the big low end like a 5150 head? I keep wondering if I should get that module, but if I did, it would be because I love the low end of a 5150, and the modules I have played have all been tighter.

I want that Powerball too though :)

Oh, I am also surprised to hear about the Omaga. I havent heard too much about that pickup. I do find the Synergy to be pretty picky on different pickups.

Ok I am a fucking idiot and didn't realize my Syn-1 cab sim out was turned on. So I turned that off, and fixed the XLR level shit, and re-recorded these. Also did one with the Mesa.

The cab thing...I turned off one of the V30s, so it's a V30 and a CB75. MUUUUUUCH better lolol.

They do have similarities running them this way. I would think it would be hard not to because these modules have to share something going into the same unit. But also, we all know speakers have more of an impact on the tone than anything else, so running everything through the same speaker sims is going to be similar anyway.

The 6505 does remind me a lot of the head in the low end response, which is why I sent it back. It's big and loose and flubby in a way that I don't like. But I also don't like those heads, so makes sense.

The Omega has become my favorite Duncan. I have it in 3 guitars.

Sounds great Raf, of the modules I dig the Engl most in this.

The IR thing gets to be a rabbit hole for me, but I have been tweaking different ones for each module
and that seems to help. Are you using the Celestion Speaker mix IR loader?

The Savage is one of the few modules I haven't owned. But I have brought it home a few times and it can be dialed great. I don't mind the shared controls on ones like the SLO and HBE, but on this one I kept wanting each EQ'd different. I'd love to hear what you make it do though!

So when you talk about tje OG 6505 being loose, I assume especially the lead channel? I always thought the crunch on clean channel was my favorite about that amp. I only used the lead channel for......... Leads. Lol.

I never really used the crunch channel for distortion stuff.

I got the Powerball and 6505 modules this week. I like them both! The 6505 module feels tighter than the original head did, but still has a nice aggression to it. I like that it is not as tight as the Powerball. Gives it that feeling of bigness. I also dont think the high end is as grating as the original head.

I have never played an actual ENGL, but I really like the Powerball module also. It is very tight and clear. Don't need a boost at all. The mid switch is actually useful in more than 1 setting. All around great module. It definitely has the tightest bass of the 5 modules I have.

I also did some research on the Omega. On paper it looks like it would be way too bright, but I saw people say it is like a Nazgul lite. I really like the Nazgul, so I could see liking it if that is the case.

I like the Nazgul a lot too. It is less output, but not sure how similar it is otherwise. But I like it a lot.

I'm leaning toward the Powerball.

Do you have a finished version of this song?

I like the Powerball the best followed by the VII. The first two were a bit too sizzly for my taste.
