Trying Ugritone Drums Speed metal!
I got an email of $5 for this library if I was the first 100 and I guess I was. Anything is worth trying for $5. The first Ugritone I tried I really didn't love it but didn't dive in too deep. But this one seemed to get going a bit faster for me.. Its an interesting liubrary, I think Ugritone is about a little more "ugly" in the drums. There's distortion that I assume is built in.. But thats how a lot of old drum tones were done. By adding some distortion and saturation.. Anyway I made up 2 quick riffs.. I put em on the same file, with a 5 second gap between em... Using the Evh 5153 el34 100 on the blue channel hitting the front end with the Presonus EQ3b.. Really is the best tone for me in this amp.. Its the perfect thrash/death tone.. Im using IRs here as I was more concerned with getting the drums running good and by the time I did, it sounded pretty killler.. Overall, for $5 it was a damn steal and hits WAY above that...

Re: Trying Ugritone Drums Speed metal!
Yeah it sounds old school. Like mid 80s speed/thrash drums. It's cool. The 2nd riff fit better with this type of drum sound.
I like this type of sound/mix more than the modern metal sound.
The guitar sounds killer as usual.

Re: Trying Ugritone Drums Speed metal!
Yeah I can see that, as far as the first riff. With that deeper thuddier snare with verb.. I do admit to having a soft spot for that snare sound. Def 80s.. And Agree I like it more.. One of the things I struggled with big time with my own stuff was the drums. They were sonically great and fit in mixes great but too fucking clean and polished.. I bitched my whole life when I was a drummer about tTHAT sound! hahah And then I sort of went with it when I programmed most of the time.. Got lazy.. I shouldn't have settled for sumthin just cause it worked!!
BUt
I swapped out the kick and snare.lol. Just a touch more modern and tight... I may prefer the first kick.. Not sure..
I believe these were in my other library I had from them.. Cause the toms and cymbals on the Speed metal kit are perfectly good to me. In fact some will think its small, but the Ride is one of the best I think Ive ever heard.. I struggle with getting lively "real" ride work with just about every other library.. This one feels way more alive to me.. And the rest of the cymbals sound great too...

I picked up their drums against humanity but I've not had the chance to play with it yet. I've enjoyed kvlt drums 2. That's perfect in a shitty way

Yeah these are more modern sounding. I think these sounds are a better match to the first riff. The cleaner drums gave the track more clarity and separation. On the second riff I like the previous drums better, but both work really well.
The cymbals sound really good indeed, probably one of the best cymbal sounds I've heard from a plug-in.

I was impressed enough with their Demos of that Drums Against Humanity kit and bought it.. And its a true pro product.. even tho its basically only the one kit with a few options for kick/snare, the presets gets a very different sound.. And they were all basically killer straight away! A few tweaks to each and I have 4 pretty distinct kits all in the same plugin..
Heres the same clip with the 4 different kit tones..
This one is the "reign in blood" type kit. Fucking pummeling. https://app.box.com/s/gkx90i6for4rv398nvtnpr9va1dq30rf
This is the Inferno preset. SO basically Behemoth tone https://app.box.com/s/dmnxgcjxkbpn49h0b8riw2cza4mxkz5c
This one was labeled Helvete. Not sure who thats geared towards. Maybe Nasum? I like it a lot tho! https://app.box.com/s/e2vjn6sks5k5a1lvbzgq9b85caj6acua
Last is the Florida DM kit. Fucking sounds straight out of Morrisound https://app.box.com/s/hj5c0iq7sj0ca2mhpr08ynx3dvz3d4zw

Guitars sound huge, for sure. I am not a fan of this clicky kind of kick sound.

Its easily dialed down. I mean this was all first time shit. For the speed metal pack I used a sample along with the "mic" kick.. Seemed to be kinda necessary for anything with more modern guitars.. But if you check any of the ones just a post or 2 move, the Drums Against Humanity kit. None of those are particularly "clicky" to me. Ad also there is no sample layered on any of those. In fact that whole kit has no samples layered. So those are all as recorded. I like both of these libraries but no doubt the Drums Against Humanity is the most pro.. And likely most versatile.. Really happy with all of those 4 I dialed in.. I like the GGD stuff, but its weird, when using and mixing with it, I know its polished and kinda plasticky but it sounds good overall.. But then when I listen on cars and headphones I feel I can hear too much of that polished "programmed" sound.. Even tho it has all the tools to dial in room mics and try to get realism, these Ugritone kits get more of a live drummer vibe for sure..

Re: Trying Ugritone Drums Speed metal!
Maybe it's just the fast double bass happening, they seem less clicky when it gets to the second riff, but I did check them all out. I dunno, the kick isn't my favorite, but the rest of the drums all sound good.

I do like the Slayer one fore sure.. As far as programming.. Piano roll. It does suck a little to not be able to audition beats like the GGD sampler Meaning you can have your midi files loaded into he sampler and simply audition them there.. But, you ca just drag and drop.. Little more work to find I-remade beats but otherwise, its all the same

Re: Trying Ugritone Drums Speed metal!
Slayer kit sounds sick. DAH is a steal for $40 in the sale. While the ugritone interface isn't as slick as a lot of the other drum vsts out there I really appreciate that they're making a niche product for a certain kind of metal and they price things reasonably too.

For sure on all of that. The interface isn’t great, I had to dig into my Logic to fine tune some things to get it to function properly but it runs as good as my others now. And I really think their tones are very lively and “real”.

Yeah I’m gonna try putting that in some of the other kits. It immediately sounded familiar to me. Like the second Malevolent Creation album or sumthin. Total Morrisound “sound”.
