NAD! Engl Artist!

Post by Mike Oxhuge »

Just got my Engl Artist. I already had a Blackmore a few years ago and it was one of my favorite amps all time. This is a modified version of it, was to be the Doug Aldrich sig model with input from other artists such as Gary Moore, Jimmy Page, etc... It fixes all the gripes I had about the Blackmore. Tighter low end, more Marshally sounding, built in noise gate is great, the tones are amazing! Cleans are amazing, crunch channel is 95% JCM800, high lead is absolutely tight brutal moded Marshall goodness! Pic of Madison Square Living room.

Yes!!! I love these amps. If I’d have never gotten my Metroplex, I’d have been buying one of these. When I got my Metro I took it to a buddy’s house who owns the Artist and we played the fuck out of both at stupid loud volumes. It was some of the most glorious Marshall tones in one room I’ve ever heard. Easily my favorite ENGL of the few I’ve played. Just a ballsy as fuck RAWK amp.

I think you would really enjoy the high Lead channel. It is really a tighter bigger sounding Marshall tone. And the built in gate on this channel works flawlessly. No noise, instant gating qhen muting, and still retains dynamics.

I have wanted one of these since they hit the market. I have never pulled the trigger, but if I find myself in the right scenario, I think one will be in my collection for sure.

Thanks gents! Yes this amp is everything I wanted my Blackmore and Splawns to be. It has the Marshall feel, not stiff like most Splawns, better cleans and the Lead 1 and Lead 2 are incredible!

Congrats, those always seem like it would be the sweet spot Engl to me.
I had the Blackmore years ago, and it just wasn't quite there.

The Blackmore was great for scooped thrash tones but a little too scooped for classic rock IMHO. The Artist high lead has a lot of similarities to my Cameron Mig I had when I dialed in high gain only tighter. Huge tight lows.

I was curious abot that amp a couple years ago, sounds like its killer and you like it :thu:

Is it INSANELY loud? You mention Splawn and i had 1 for a very short time and the QR was the LOUDEST amp ever lol

Do a clip soon if you can, would love to hear it at different volumes

Awesome. I've never gotten to play any egnator except for those little bitty things you see at GC every once in a while. But I've never heard a clip of one that didn't sound great. Definitely sounds like you're getting what you wanted out of it, which is the best feeling after a NAD.
