Slash switching to Magnatone?

Post by Diddlybo »

I saw where Slash is now using Magnatone amps and is releasing a Magnatone sig amp. Wow. I just cant see Slash onstage with anything other than a Les Paul and a Marshall.

I wonder if his deal will be like Billy Gibbons' Magnatone deal? Billy has the Mag's out on stage but I'm pretty sure his live rack is still the same old Marshall JMP preamps he's been using for a couple of decades now.

Interesting. I am curious to see what comes out of this. On one hand, I agree it's pretty impossible to disassociate Slash from Marshall amps at this point of his career. No matter who he endorses, people looking for his tone will get LPs and Marshalls. As they should, because every single one of his important recordings/shows was played with that combination.

On the other hand, Magnatone amps do sound great and are built really well. So it's not like he is moving to some budget company. It will be a tall order for them to make something good enough to eclipse Slash's Marshall legacy. But they do have the knowledge to do it. So we'll see.

Really? Will have to read more to wrap my head around that. Didn't know that Fortus was using them either.

Edit: Just read an article about this. Wow. Didn't see that coming.

Thought Fortus used Supro?

The article I read mentioned they are making him a 100w version of their Super 59 model. :hmm:

Played a Magnatone amp in Nashville a few months back. It sounded very marshall-esque and the tremolo was amazing. One of the best-sounding amps I have ever played, IMHO.

Look at the cost of most of the UK made Marshalls new in the states. A brand new JVM410H is $3199.99. Now I like the JVM but if I had to have a brand new Marshall style amp for that kind of coin and a little more I could get anything from Metropoulos, Friedman, Suhr, Bogner, Magnatone, Germino and so many more that also do the Marshall sound.

Same. I don’t have any interest in buying a modern Marshall, though I would be fine using one as a backline. I know I could get great tones out of them (hell Billy makes the DSL sound excellent) but they’re not as “fun” for me as the other brands you mention.

Some greasy tones and greasy playing courtesy of the Reverend Billy Gibbons!

Yeah that makes more sense. He's big enough to maintain multiple endorsements. No one will say No to him.

Kind of the same thing he does with guitars. He's still a huge Gibson endorser but he's also part owner at BC Rich now.
