CLIP: GTF in here. Had a vision. New song.

Post by BroSlinger »

So, of course, it ended up sounding like Pink Floyd. The key wasn't right for falsetto vox.

I had a VIVID dream. My muse was being a real bitch. She was telling me to drop the fucking unhealthy obsession. :D :D I was presented with a door on a sheer face of a building over a parking lot. I was too afraid to go in. It was too fucking risky.

Turned it into a song.

Warmoth Tele Dlx - Creamery - This is the perfect guitar. Seriously.
Skreddy Klipper - I was on the fence with this pedal, but it comes alive with humbuckers with a loud amp in the room.
Master PMEQ - interesting pedal. Not sure I needed it here, but cool nonetheless.
Diamond Comp - the only comp I need.
SUF Dire Wolf Vintage - awesome.
Diamond Counter Point - First time I've used this on a recording. very cool.
CB Reverse Mode C - nothing fancy on this recording, but it worked great.
Meris LVX - nothing fancy on this recording, but it worked great.
Meris Mercury X - nothing fancy on this recording, but it worked great.

Badass! Like that the lead in the outro is somewhat buried. Fits the vibe!

Thanks a lot dudes! I'm glad you got to hear it.

So, Trey, I wanted to do that, and it just didn't work out. It sounded cliche and didn't fit the song. In the end, I did what I could lead-wise.

The feeding back minor 6th harmony dissonance buried in the mix was just enough.

Damn, bro, this is fantastic. Love the way the vocals slide into the mix with the big washy verb behind them. Good work, man.

See, me? I get those types of dreams all the time, and I'm always a dumbass and open the door. Then I end up crawling through the wreckage of one of my old schools, trying to remember room layouts so I can find my way to the exit. I don't think I've ever found the exit in fifty years of these nonsense dreams.

Thanks so much, man.

RE: the vocals. I've learned so much watching the Marcus Lapp videos on YT. He mentioned doing tracks with whispering in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDpTj4zXjKI

I was listening to Bat For Lashes - Daniel, and it hit me. She is whispering a track, and that's where the breathy sound comes from. I did a whisper track on this, and tripled it. I pitch shifted one up and one down. Then, none of those go to the master buss, they all go to the slapback and reverb buss. They create a huge wash without a massive reverb tail. Watch "the indie music lab" youtube series. Everything you never knew you don't know is in those vids. Just awesome.

BTW, yeah, there was a guy holding the door open, and I didn't trust him. He was going to push me over the edge, so I never went in. I went back to a bar on the ship, and the muse lost her shit. I felt like she needed a straightjacket. I bailed on her and built a closet for her dance team. They kind of had clown makeup.

:fap: keep going. :cop:

That vocal thing is cool. I've done whisper tracks an enhancement under a vocal, but not thought to use that as the driver for the verb. That's a really cool trick. I'll have to dig through some of those vids during my free time. LOL. Free time.

I agree it was good, I thought it should have come forward a bit in a few spots at least.

Thanks for listening, everybody!

Trey,

Yeah, I've been listening to it on a few systems. I am planning on remixing it a bit. My desk setup seems to tame highs and lows vs what new cars and iphones are doing to the mix.

Fresh Remix. EQ'ed some stuff. Boosted the lead parts. Gated some of the vox. Switched comps on 4 of the guitar tracks.
