Initially when my wife and I surprised our son with Metallica tickets he was quite a Debbie Downer about it, but it really didn't take long for him to get excited for it. So it was finally concert day yesterday.
I don't care how old they are, or Pantera for that matter. Concert fucking rocked. I really regret not ever seeing Van Halen in concert, and now I never can. At least I can check off Metallica, Zakk Wylde, and 1/2 of Pantera off the list.
We made it in only for Mammoth's last song, but holy crap WVH is legit.
The look on his face makes it a win in my book!

Love Metallica shows. Every time I go is a flood of memories from the times I saw them with my stepdad, my cousin, my wife. We will go every time they come to town. And now my son just started learning guitar. He says he wants to learn Where Ever I May Roam. I can’t wait to take him to his first Metallica show like my stepdad took me.

Bro. That's so awesome you have memories tied into it. This was my first time seeing Metallica and Pantera. Starting from ground zero but hope to cement those memories with my son.
Also: Wherever I May Roam is the first song my son and I learned together. When we clicked on the pre-solo harmony it was one of those Top 10 Dad Moments haha.

The last Metallica show I saw was when they were billed with Gn'R in LA during the '90s. The audience just didn't react much to Gn'R so Axl was getting upset. I think Hetfield couldn't play either. I think it was after he cooked his arm. The dude from Metal Church played his parts. Man, honestly, I don't remember.
But I did catch Metallica in '89 at the Long Beach Arena as Justice for All was breaking. I wonder if that was one of their last "smaller" shows before they got really popular. Supposedly GGF member Grimes was there too (not the mother of Musk's children).
Nice!! Making a road trip to see them in Edmonton in August. Sprung for Snake Pit this time as I’ve seen them something like 8 times but always in the nosebleeds. Figured it might be one of the last chances to see them and I can afford it so why not?

I've seen them many times starting in '88 on the AJFA tour. Always a great show.

My wife and I will be seeing them both nights in Detroit this Friday and Sunday. I’m pumped.

last metallica concert i saw was around reload same two concerts (i only went to one) when the filmed cunning stunts. It was a cool show but nowhere near the energy of the load tour I saw them on. It kind of sucked because they refilmed a couple songs so they played the same songs 2-3 times.
The Detroit show tonight was excellent. Left a little early as my wife wasn’t feeling so hot. I’ve seen Metallica before so I don’t mind cutting out a little early. Missed Mammoth unfortunately. Loved the Pantera set. Zakk was Zakk and he Zakk’ed it up a bit during the Pantera stuff and you know what? It was fucking great. He’s not Dime and that’s ok. He played songs well and for the solos he kept most of the major identifiable licks and tossed in some Zakk stuff. It was great. Charlie Benante’s drumming was on point too. I never saw Pantera in the 90s and this is the closest I’ll ever get.
And Metallica was great. Didn’t realize how much I was going to enjoy hearing Orion live but I sure as fuck loved it. Nothing Else Matters was great. I love Hetfield’s solo in that song. Rest of their set list was good. Yeah some new stuff but when you open with Creeping Death into Harvester of Sorrow, you set a good tone for the night. Plus it was cool to see Hammet (who sounded great. Better than when I saw last in 2009) play Greenie live. Someone at TGP’s head just exploded when I typed that. Whatever. It’s awesome to see that specific still get played live rather than sitting in a case in someone’s collection.

Awesome! Glad you guys had a good time! It’s like a whole experience going to their shows.
Hammett did an interview with Rick beato where he talks about greenie and how it was shattered into a bunch of pieces way way back in a car accident. Then how he dropped it and broke the headstock lol. I couldn’t even imagine breaking a $2.5M guitar but I guess when you’re Kirk Hammett it doesn’t fucking matter lol
I’ll be going to night 2 tomorrow. As much as I liked the first night, the second night has some songs I’m super pumped to hear.

I just want to see them play Blackened. It's my favourite song and of course despite seeing them every time they've come to Vancouver since the early 90's, the only time they played it was the ONE concert I missed because I was living overseas.

Second night was awesome. Opened with Whiplash, For Whom The Bell Tolls and then Ride the Lightning. Threw in one of the few St Anger tunes I like (Dirty Window) and again were on point all fucking night. Love it. Gotta see em again when they come back.
