Recording this mess Saturday with the usual DSL/Mesa Cab. Spent a couple hours listening to tunes with the VSX over the rest of Saturday / Sunday, then took a stab at a "set the levels and get some EQ done" 15 minutes preliminary mix with VSX this morning. Definitely a ways to go, but I found I'm not so gun-shy about letting the low end exist now.

Feel free to hit me with advice. I'll probably spend several days with of fifteen minute blocks fiddling with this until I'm happy with it, so any mix tips for me will be appreciated and likely tried out just to see what's what.

Re: 15 Minute Mix with VSX
Low end sounds good in my studio monitors but when I listen through headphones there's something off with the panning. I'm not sure what it is, but the 2 sides sound very different from each other (mix wise, playing is tight) But maybe that was the idea?

I'd be curious what difference you're hearing.
The one part I hear a difference is the big palm-muted riff, where it's left side has the low note, right side has the high note, and center has the chord formed by those notes. That does feel a shade unbalanced towards the left, but is the nature of the beast. The other "two different parts" sections have the center playing the big chords, the outsides playing the slippery riff.
Today's fuckery:

Added some reverb to snare and toms. A little EQ on master bus and guitars. Added some compression to various mix busses. Then added some gelling reverb on the master that you can barely hear in headphones.

The section that kicks in around 54 is damn sweet.

Thanks, VTM!
Re: 15 Minute Mix with VSX
im hearing a slight build up in the low end id guess somewhere around 300hz or so. i think the snare could come up a bit and maybe lower the kick a tad. id probably hit it a little harder on the buss comp. these would be minor tweaks though, sounds good!
