Aaaand another one - NGD

Post by spawnofthesith »

Just traded my SG for this S2 McCarty 594 in a limited finish. First two images are from the seller because my apartment is dark AF and I’m not really capturing how amazing this top is. Definitely one of the best tops I’ve seen on an S2!

I know some of y’all may not approve of the trade  the sg was a real looker and played and sounded great but I wasn’t really playing it ever and it was just too damn noisy for the levels of gain I play at. A McCarty has been on my short list and this dude was down so I did it. No need to fear for my LP or strat but as those are lifers but I’m a full blown PRs convert. Only 20 or so minutes of ply time so far but I’m loving it

Congrats man!!!! That's probably my favorite PRS guitar model. I played one recently and really had to fight not to buy it. If I ever get a PRS, this is the one. I love the way they beveled the tops on the S2s. Really comfortable.

Hot dog that is a sexy guitar. My CE24 really brought me around on PRS. Good thing my interests are off GAS, for a while. Pretty happy with everything I got.

Pile on the PRS!

Thanks!! It’s really killer, and obviously a lot closer to an LP, although I contend still very much it’s own thing and shouldn’t be too closely compared.

I used to not really like the aesthetic of the S2 carve, but needless to say I’ve come around

Thanks!! One of the guitars I was trying to trade my tele for before landing on the CE24 was a double cut, I decided to offer the SG for it, but then I found this thing and couldn’t resist the top

I almost feel guilty for getting another so soon after the CE, but rest assured they will all get plenty of play tkme lol

Thanks!! I still have my faithful LP and strat, but obviously I’ve been smitten with the whole PRS thing

I really dig the way they bevel the top. I prefer it to the typical carve on their Core line. Congrats on the cool guitar!

It reminds me of the AES line from Yamaha. However, I think PRS did it better... especially with the whole aesthetic.

Congrats! That top is awesome!

I have an older McCarty, but I have tried tried a few S2 models and think the bevel makes the S2 guitars more comfortable than the core models.

Thanks dudes!

I definitely prefer the carve they do on the core models, but I've come around on the bevel. It is quite comfortable.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the "S" version pickups that are in here, but so far I think they sound great and don't really see a reason to change anything there. Definitely more vintage voiced than the dragon IIs or 85/15, obviously. The coil splitting is really nice on this guitar. I've found that PRS in general is superior to most when it comes to coil spliting, and I think this one might even be a step ahead than my other prs.

Neck is pretty chonky with the vintage pattern shape, just a bit fatter than the wide fat neck on my custom 22. The neck cut away is also quite impressive on this, and different than my other PRS... I've never had an issue with upper fret access on anything, but the way they designed it is pretty nice

These pickups are clones of the 58/15 LT and I had a core McCarty at the same time and they are close enough to be nearly identical. I think PRS winds the split coil hotter to make the splitting so good.

Yeah I was watching a bunch of comparison videos today. The core versions mainly just seem to be a bit brighter and maaaybe a bit more clear (or "top end sparkle" in TGP speak). But overall pretty close. Certainly won't catch me forking out $500 to upgrade to a core set
