Long Term Project Sneak Peak.

Post by nightflameauto »

I know I've posted clips here the last few weeks, but this one is the one I've been "working" on. Like, literally for weeks, if not months. It's gettin' there instrument wise. Still have some mix issues I ain't thrilled with, but thought I'd share anyway.

This new project? Basically, I'm taking songs I've always played my own way, recording them, and pooping 'em out there for people to :rawk: to, or make fun of, or whatevs.

So, this particular one is one of the first set of riffs I 'learned' (i.e. made up some shit that sounded vaguely like the song) to play on my uncle's old Spectrum 4 Sears-branded guitar (Tiesco produced). Long before I owned my own guitar. Probably '85 or maybe '84. Over the years I heard other bands take stabs at it, then Manson, then I pretended I didn't know the song existed for several years just so nobody thought I was a Manson fan if they heard me playin' it. Guess I got over that. This has been recorded LOUD. I'm sure my neighbors have heard it.

When I release these, I'm gonna call 'em "Jay Ruins." So, here's the instrumental bones of Jay Ruins Sweet Dreams:

Sweet Dreams Pre-Vocals

Another Stab:
Take Two

Use it for Karaoke!

Technicalities:
Jackson JS32T with GFS Redactive Golds
Dime CFH Wah - Cat Puke Edition (Thanks VTM!)
Keeley SD-1
DSL - duh
Mesa widebody 1x12

Drums are GGD Invasion, which is a lot of fun to mess with, gotta say.

I believe this is my first clip posted on the webz that has wah in it. Huh.

Favorite bits:
Launch of the solo
The build-up to the end
The "Movin' On" riff

Been hearing this in my head for almost forty years this way. It's awesome to finally start actually hearing most of it.

I'd take tips on the mix, BTW. I'll be playing with it more over the next few weeks, as I work on the vocals. Got some good plans there.

I don't think the solo was on the version you sent me a while back. Great to hear my old CFH in action, you did it proud cat puke and all!

Thanks, man. My low-end in my room is all whacky-dacky, so I get paranoid I'm making bass-bombs if I don't tighten the shit out of kicks and bass. I'm working on a solution to that. Hopefully the next mix will be a bit fuller on the bottom.

Yup. The solo is new since that version. That CFH is one of the most fun wah pedals I've ever used. Using it wide open with the boost engaged sounds wild as hell.

I realize I forgot to mention any of the other songs on the to-do list:
Hungry Like the Wolf (Duran Duran)
Sunglasses at Night (Corey Hart)
Angel of the Morning (Juice Netwon)
Mummer's Dance (Loreena McKennit)
Piss on the Wall (J. Geils)
And at least one Olivia Newton John tune, maybe more.
