My kid has been wanting a guitar with a Floyd for a bit now, so yesterday I surprised him with a new 200 series LTD KH.
The hardware and pickups are so much better than what they came with a couple decades ago. Passive EMG-Hz pickups were just as bad as the Duncan Designed garbage, and the licensed Floyd lo-pros were just awful. ESP pickups and Floyd Special should last a while if it's not abused, but I think I'll eventually upgrade the bridge and studs if it starts to not hold tune anymore. The knob layout is actually kinda cool. Separate volume knobs are useful if you want to keep your amp on the same channel but want a semi-clean when you switch to the neck pickup.
Anyway, he's super happy about it. Timing was good because it'll be perfect for his Halloween costume, and I'm hoping it'll get him more excited to go see Metallica in a few weeks.
