I am the same. I have also determined that a TBX tone control gives me a good amount of bass cut at the guitar if I need it and I can forego the boost on many occasions. The bass cut on the ODR is not nearly as severe as something like a TS9. It's more of a full-frequency boost across the board with the bass cut removing some woofy lows from humbuckers. So if you like the overall tone of your amp but just want more gain, the ODR may be the boost for you. If you are looking for a boost to tighten up the low mids and add upper mids, you want to look elsewhere.

Exactly. A TS style pedal boosts the midrange so the bass gets cut out as a result.
The ODR is more of a boost across all frequencies, and you do that, the tone gets naturally thicker. So the ODR bass cut just restores the low end back to where it was before. It's a different effect from a TS/SD1 bass cut.

The salesman that turned me on to the ODR called the bass cut switch the "Tele Switch" and said if you have a tele, turn it off, if you have any other guitar, turn it on.

The reason many have never heard of it is because all the Country guys have been using them forever and if you don't follow Country players, well then you wouldn't know.
Great transactions - Davidian, twisty, Dooredge, Mike LX-R, drkorey, Thurston, colejustesen, Mortatone, thesockmonster

Between that and the fact that it is green in color people like myself incorrectly assume it is just another tube screamer variant in an oversaturated market. It's a great drive pedal and a great boost, and the external switching option is something more pedals should adopt.

Yup exactly why I overlooked it for years then came across a youtube video talking about how all the Nashville guys have been using it forever.

that's true, although it really started with the L.A. studio guys in the 80s. The Country guys picked up on it after Dann Huff (who was originally one of the L.A. rock guys) moved to Nashville and started to produce country albums with more of a rock influence. He is the one who spread the word bout the ODR to the country guys. I think Brent Mason was the first one to pick it up, then the other guyts followed.

Dann Huff was a pretty monster player. Listen to some of the Giant stuff. He does a lot of work with Keith Urban who is no slouch either.

yeah he pretty much redefined country. Modern country is old country + Giant
