Friday. Time to Rage. Multi-mic recording inside.

Post by nightflameauto »

Friday afternoon, no work, felt like beating up the guitar a bit. This is the standard JS32T with GFS Gold Redactives, cable, DSL set to scoopy soupy, volume all the way up, EQ in the loop to roll off the low end a bit through the mesa cab.

I was diggin the tone I get from the M160 up close on the cab

But felt it missed a bit of the  in the low-mids I was hearing in the room. So, I popped the Audix i5 toward the paper right between the dust cap and the edge of the speaker.

Somehow, for the very first time ever in my life, I got almost perfect phase alignment right off. Blended the two and

Gat dang.

I fell I'm getting closer on the drums, though the kick still feels a little over-full to me at the moment. Still, not bad for an hour or so of fuckery.

Thanks, man.

I dig the finger movement bits here. Makes you feel like you're actually playing, rather than just beating wildly on the guitar like I usually do.

Thanks, guys.

And yeah Raf, that m160 is as close to "that's my amp" as any single mic ever achieves. The combo of the two mics just hits a little harder in that gnarly gut-punch region. #4 is pretty close to ideal for me for that old school thrash chug. If I can spend a little time getting drums and bass to sound right with it, and still have it hit like that in the mix?

Sounds great dude! This is my favorite guitar tone you've gotten.

Mix opinion: it'd sound better with the cymbals a bit lower and the kick/snare higher. The kick may need more highs to cut through.

Yeah, the drums definitely need something different. I'm still kicking around where I end up with them for my latest round of clips.
