belated NAD

Post by boris the blade »

Picked up stiletto trident a few weeks ago. Stage 1. Don't get why people dislike these, I think it sounds great especially boosted with a treble booster. Its needs volume like any tube amp to sound the best.

I think mine would have been better if I wasn’t putting it through Vintage 30s. I’d love to try one with my Creamback cab or Greenback cab.

Greenbacks definitely work great with this amp.
I thought it was fine with v30s too but I can see why some wouldn't like it. It definitely gets a bit nasal in the midrange.

Interesting, I'm thinking of picking up a mesa 4x12 pretty soon with mesa v30's. You did not like? I've got an odd combo of speakers in my 2x12, rather than the stock 75's. I should have probably kept the stock speakers in as I had intended to sell the marshall cab after getting the mesa but doubt I could move it now.

A friend had a Stiletto ace, stage 1 IIRC. I had a good time jamming on it.

I'm guessing Marshall "purist" and also Mark or Rectifier lovers might turn their noses to it.

I'd have gone greenbacks, but alas I am only on 2x12. I can drop to 50w on the stiletto, but that is no fun :D

The V30s worked ok but for most of the Marshall style amps I’ve played I’ve vastly preferred Creambacks or Greenbacks. My favorite speaker is the G12H Creamback 75. I just love how it sounds.

I think a lot of internet talk about any tube amp tends to boil down to your last point. Volume. Home players that have never played gigs don't ever push the volume past 1 or 2 and then complain that the amps are thin, or sound bad, or whatever. While I dig that that talk has led us to a point where a lot of amps now sound pretty decent down low, there's no denying that a good amp is going to sound way better opened up, even if it's voiced well for low volumes.

Congrats, man. I'd love to try one of these.

Only thing that kinda freaked me out is the ten trillion tubes lmao

The Stilettos and Triple Crowns are the secret weapons that are really under-rated.

Thanks! It's got V30's, right now I am actually running the V twin preamp thru the stiletto, wanted a slightly darker tone and it delivers. So haven't tried without the v twin atm, but will eventually.

The first Mesa I owned was a Stage 2 Deuce. Really great sounding amp that was just a victim of my desire to rotate. I'm now on my 3rd Mesa, with a Racto. But I've not got a chance to hear it with my gear yet. Hopefully today.
