5150 2x12 combo conversion headshells?

Post by Devin »

Do y'all know of any place that sells a headshell that will fit the guts of a 5150 2x12 combo amp?

I'd like to convert mine to a head because it just sits unused as is.....too fucking big and heavy to fuck with

I'd also rather not chop the combo in half if I can help it

No idea if anywhere makes one, but I made one for my first combo. Eric made one for his. One time I chopped one up, and that ended up being the best, but I wish I hadn't chopped it up haha. This is not helpful lol.

Zilla will probably make you one. Whether or not it makes sense or not to get them to do it is a different matter.

Mojotone makes custom cabs and shells, maybe reach out to them. I've gone down this path trying to find something to convert my Mesa Road King combo and came to the conclusion I'll have to make my own or buy a blank one from Mesa. I don't think Peavey sells empty shells but could try reaching out to them too.
Another thing might be to see if anyone is selling an empty combo shell that you can cut down.

Why have you not included the pics man?! Your combo head is a classic.

Because they were on photobucket. But you, my friend, are thinking of the legendary Samson combo. My 6505 combo headshell actually wasn't too bad haha. I will try to dig them up.

Get yourself a circular saw and a steady hand and go to town.

If you want some pointers from someone who’s cut down several combos in his day, DM me.
I used to play guitar.

Be better to just make a new one. I got my wood from Home Depot, just some plywood. And they cut it all for me, too.

Had some stair treads left and built a headshell for my Badlander. I am about as unhandy as you could almost get in this regard and it was super easy.
