20 Watt DSL, again, playing some scoopy chugs.

Post by nightflameauto »

I listened to a LOT of old, scoopy thrash on my way to and from that place up nort' for our little gear gathering. It seems to have infected me.

Just the DSL scooped to shit, an EQ in the loop to pull back around 100hz enough it doesn't flub on low chugs, through the mesa 1x12, m160 center of the speaker.

(Grammarly gave me the cry emoji for that previous line. EAT SHIT, GRAMMARLY!)

Listening back, I have a hard time saying I'd want to change anything in that tone. Now to work up a whole song. :cop:

Clip sounds great!!!

I played one of these 20w DSL last weekend at practice, after the Victory pedal fiasco. It sounded great but it struggled keep up with the band volume wise. But it did sound really good with the gain low and the master maxed out.
But I ended up moving to a Boss Katana to finish practice. The DSL did sound much better but was a bit short on volume against the drums.

Thanks for checking it out, bros.

While I can get one of the 20s to keep up with a drummer, sorta, if there are cabs available to plug both in, it's about perfect with a good, loud drummer. Still, 90% of the time, if I'm jamming and there are other big amps involved, it's gonna be the Katana.

Mission accomplished! :thu:

Thanks, guys!

I'm thinking I need to remix the drums a bit. They're a shade too bright against the guitars right now for my tastes on certain systems.

I started working on making the main riff a bit more... I dunno, techy? Something a bit more lively. This is DI with the Kazrog fiddy plugin. And me still not being 100% sure where I'm going with it so there's some slop side to side, but I think I can work with this. The tail's already getting reworked to set better with the rest of the rhythm, I just didn't record the new version this morning.

The next step is harmonies.

Haven't been this musically inspired in years. I think the gear day got the ol' guitarist juices flowing again.
