Jackson Rhoads 7 into Mark VII on IIC+ mode direct to interface using some ownhammer IRs
Amp is pretty badass, I have owned a ton of mark amps and I have to say this is by far the easiest to use and record. It has a metric shit ton of gain on tap (by far the most out of any mark I have owned) but all of it sounds more useable to me. The channel 2 crunch mode is fantastic as well. Mark VII mode is weird, I was excited to get to try it myself because some of the clips led me to believe there was a voicing there I really liked but playing it... meh. It is not like a recto at all, the gain is crunchy to the point of sounding brittle and disgusting at times. Not a fan so far but every other mode is probably the best iteration Mesa have released yet. This absolutely smashes the mark V 90 IMO its not even funny how much better it is but then again I hate the mark V so take that with a grain of salt. Mark IV mode sounds actually super close to a IV, its darker and a bit smoother than the IIC+ mode but also has a load of gain, way more than the same mode of the V and more than the real IV. Another difference is that it actually has a crushing low end where with the V it just lacks the ability to really get there.

I think VII mode reminds me more of a single recto than anything else I’d you figure out how to dial it in. For sure that mode needs a boost. But yeah, it’s far from my favorite. Wish they would’ve just cloned the 2c+ mode instead of having that weird thing haha

Listening back in the car and headphones and as usual it’s dark and bassy like all my “mixes” done at my desk tbh it needs more presence and a low pass. I might try micing it too since I have a sm57 and sm7b

And seriously about the iic+ mode, it would have been great to have that mode on both channels it’s SO GOOD, or just make the vii mode sound good

I picked one up about a month ago and agree with almost everything that's been said. I dig the mark Vii mode for just big fat recto style tones/riffs. Works good for a stoner metal sound for me. I did swap some preamp tubes out to some Chinese 12ax7b's so I'm not sure how much that helped the mark Vii mode. I hated the v I have and feel like this is a massive improvement over it in almost every way.
