Blue Ridge Rock Fest S**T show

Post by ibenhad »

If you were thinking of going be glad you didn't. If like me you went I am sorry. I won't be fooled by this Scam artist promoter again. It would take days to post all the things wrong with this event and I am just glad after 1400 miles of riding my Harley to go to this event and some other rides in the area I am home safe. Weather aside it was a complete wash no pun intended and I never even got to see one band.

P.S. Tickets already went onsale for next year but the venue (Virginia International Motor Speedway) will not allow this promoter to come back. DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$$$$

I read an article about that event a day or so ago. Looked like a nightmare. At least you got some good miles in on the bike.

I've read a bunch of stuff about this; sounds fucked for sure

I've never had the desire to go to any of these big outdoor music festivals; seems like a pretty miserable experience even if it's done right

I've only done one a few years back was Fort Rock in Florida.... my buddies and I opted for the VIP tickets which is kinda BS in that the only thing the VIP really gave you was a dedicated entrance to the venue and then access to the VIP area that was off to the side of one of the stages and in the VIP area there were a few tents with fans tables, chairs.... no complimentary drinks or even lockers.... so basically you paid for some shaded seating and easy access to over priced food and drinks..... that being said... it was nice to have a spot we could fuck off to when bands we didn't want to see where playing and get out of the sun... but... that was some pricey shade lol the only reason it was worth it for me was the line up was incredibleI think at the time the two day VIP ticket was $280 and I got to see Soundgarden, Def Leppard, Chevelle, Seether, Perfect Circle, Eagles of Death Metal, The Offspring and a bunch of others that I can't remember right now... every year after that the line up has been pretty meh

I never understood it either, I have hippie friends that still travel all over the country to these kind of four day fests sleeping in a tent and I just never understood how it’s a good time, you couldn’t pay me to do that shit

I've been to a lot of big festivals when I was younger. Rock in Rio, Woodstock 94, a bunch of Ozzfests etc... when you're young and single, they're a lot of fun.

These days, we go to M3 every year, but that's local to us so it's pretty easy. Other than that, I probably wouldn't go anymore.

Most of the bands I like are back in the club/theater circuit these days anyway.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

I did Bonnaroo once

Loved it but probably won’t ever do that again unless we roll up in an RV with air conditioning. Actually, that would be awesome :hmm:

But these fly by night bullshit festivals? Hell no

I love the idea of being on site to allow for safe drunken/drug debauchery but camping at Bonnaroo was awful. All the fun was at night but during the day it was blindingly hot so it was impossible to sleep.

I couldn't do it without a RV with AC. Which would ultimately lead to me hanging in the AC all day. So it's probably better to stay home and relax.

Even in the heyday of Lollapalooza I wasn't crazy about festivals and big concerts.

YouTube guy "Tank the Tech" worked this show for Electric Call Boy or whatever they switched their name to in avoidance of cancellation. He has like a 30 min monologue on the whole thing. Sounded like it was ran incredibly poorly by the production company. They had people there to do work but not enough and no one really directing the whole thing.

Dude, you didn't stick around for Papa Roach or Shinedown? They both provided killer smaller sets!

So much of this. I went to 4-5 of the OG Lollapaloozas and they were fun in theory but melted hell on earth in reality  I was too old for 58 bands in 1 day when I was 22 let alone 30 years older

I watched a bit of this last night. He said the promoter said they hired the same production crew who did that Sick New World (?) fest that was a complete crapshow in Vegas here a while ago. So it all checks out from that POV.

I used to plan and execute events years ago. My boss was maniacal about the details. It drove us nuts. But, it made all of the difference. If even a few small things are overlooked, it can add up to disaster. These goofballs planning this crap and Fyre fest, etc., don't understand that. The little things are the most important.

I actually worked on merch for this. The company I worked through was actually interested in buying this fest. Not so much now haha. The guy who owns this fest is 25 and pretty clueless. There’s probably going to be some lawsuits coming down.

Again I will reiterate they wouldn't even let people in and "IF" by chance you could get in the lines to even catch the shuttles was 4hrs minimum. Not a big Shinedown fan either but would have liked to have seen Roach and Oliver. Fuck that Fest I hope the guy that scammed everyone rots in hell.

Wasn’t a scam as much as the guy was just woefully unprepared and inexperienced.

SCAM Time will tell.... Lets wait and see if people actually get refunded. People I spoke to were still waiting on refunds from the '21 event. I think the biggest slap in the Face was cancelling the rest of the event Saturday night and emailing everyone that they could get in on tier 1 pricing for next years event. LIKE WHAT? Don't piss down my back and try and tell me it's raining.
