So I found some awesome IRs of the EVH cabinet.. These truly sound the most real and he does some "special" to em that adds further accuracy. They are really good..

And yes the EVH tone is SO PLAYED out. I get it.. I don't chase it either.. But it is a lasting tone I think. And I came across Eddies el34 prototype and his settings.. The prototype was the Stealth black but had Red highlights. Looked awesome. I would have gone with that look.. Ill try and upload a pic..

Anyway I was also messing around with My Star guitar I made.. Tweaking some things and put in the Antiquity JB and man, if that guitar thru this amp and those settings thru the right speaker didn't sound pretty dfamn close to that old tone

So Im just jamming.. Hitting a delay and the Detune effect at times.. I hit the red channel for more nonsense at 2;33.. Its not ideal for rhythm playing cause ED has the gain on like 8! lol.. Its awesome tho..

Excellent sound! And while of course it is familiar, I wouldn't say its "cloney", which is good. Just a good rock sound of that era.

agreed. Not as close as those who go down every rabbit hole but this is stock tone with a “old” pickup that definitely helps. Maybe even that hot PAF style would nail it..
But this antiquity JB is great. It’s like all other JBs. I had one years ago in my explorer and it was amazing and that was basically it. I bought it again awhile back and have tried 4 or 5 guitars before it sounded like one would expect in the star. Definitely a keeper. Especially since my Star is based in the original 80s and that came with a JB. So it’s fairly accurate to that old guitar

I had an original Star and just made a template off that. I found even tho it’s not very good for high fret access, I just like how they feel compared to say, the “Desolation” series cheaper Charvel Star that came out some years ago with 24 frets. To make those they have to relocate the bridge and it just throws the whole feel off to me. So I’ve made a few little tweaks to the upper horn and the back of the neck joint to get better fret access without changing the look that much. So basically if you like the original Star from the 80s, then I can build an exact copy or do the tweaks I did to mine to make it more playable on the upper frets. Especially if someone wants the 22 fret “extension”. Cause first stars were 21 frets. And really even getting to the 21st isn’t that great access. MINE is, but stock form the 21 is about max. And to add the 22 mind fret you either add the overhang like a fender 22 fret or move the bridge slightly towards the neck and build a “solid” 22 fret neck.

Getting a bit in the weeds here but I’ve really thought thru what I THINK is the best ways to get the orginal Star to play and feel right without really changing anything. Cause for me that bridge location is very important to how they feel. So I don’t want to move it. I think if I were to make a solid 22 fret neck it’s only moving about a half inch but that still matters to nutters like me! Lol

I'm all about the weeds! I was a complete Kramer nut for a long time, and went hard into info on that company and their contemporaries, so the seemingly "waste of time" details that a lot of other people don't care about are things that I look extra hard at.

I've not had or played a original Star, but I would want to get pretty close to that, to be reasonably true to form.

I would think if I went for 22 frets with the overhang, I would have to go with a squared bottom like on other Charvels, as opposed to the rounded Fender type. Probably single hum, but things could change.
