Update 2: answer from Palmer. This is too technical for me, what is he talking about ? Meanwhile I’ll contact Orange and Bogner about this.

It's a holiday in the US today so replies will come slowly.

BTL means bridge tied load. Basically 2 amp outputs per speaker. Usually used on amps that run on low voltage to get more wattage out of them. Are these amps running small ac adapters like 9v or 12v etc? Or do they get real AC power? If they're on adapters, they're probably BTL.

I had no idea the Palmer wouldn't work with them but then again I don't think many people are trying to use these units with this types of amps.

Yeah so according to the reply from Palmer they won't work. Well, the Bogner will, just take the signal out of the effects send. No issues there.

The Orange will be a problem, maybe it could be modded with a preamp output. I think that's possible but I'm not sure how it'd be done.

It's pretty straightforward to add a line-out jack to any amp, solid state or tube, using the speaker output jack as your source. You can also build it into a project box if you want to move it from amp to amp. I've used the link below to add slave outputs to multiple amp builds over the years.

yes, but I don't think this design addresses the compatibility issue between the Palmer and BTL amps. It will still be a BTL output, only attenuated. I think for his case he would need an actual preamp out (before it hits the power section) rather than just a line level signal from the power amp. The signal level is not the issue, the Palmer can handle a 100w Marshall speaker level signal with no problems. The problem is the BTL circuit shuts off when connected to the Palmer.

I may have misunderstood the BTL shutoff on the palmer as only affecting the power amp level input setting. If it affects both the line level and amp level setting then this would not work. There are some mods out there to add an effects loop to the Orange Micro Terror and using the send from the Fx loop would probably work.

I’ve already sent the micro terror back and got the Micro Dark instead which has FX loop. So I’m using the Palmer with these 2 amps in Line setting, all good in the end. I just have to get a passive splitter so I can use a cabinet because I don’t want to rely on venues stage monitors and soundmen.

Try to go from the Palmer Thru back to the FX Return. I don't know why I didn't think of that before  but it should solve the issue.

I don’t think Thru is available in Line setting, but I’ll try.

It is available for both settings. I used mine with a 530 preamp and the Thru still worked.

Why are you doing this?

Maybe I missed your goal with this setup, but I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish.

I said it in the other topic: a portable stereo rig to use in small clubs which have shitty backline.

Yeah it's definitely an unusual setup but it's cool. I'm all about oddball rigs, even though I play the most common rig of them all. LP and Marshall

I gotcha.

small clubs with shitty backlines need stereo rigs? I'm not even mad, just curious what type of band/music needs something this complicated.

It’s simpler for me to go direct to mixer/PA amd have a consistent sound than deal with poor placed mics on shitty cabinets, little time for soundcheck and soundguys who doesn’t care.

The struggle for FOH and stage sound "matching" is as old as time itself. Cracking that code universally for every venue/situation you will encounter when gigging is near impossible, imo.

Re: Help with Palmer PDI-05 !

Yeah I agree, it's nearly impossible to keep it consistent from one gig to another but the Palmer DIs really helps a lot with consistency. I send a PDI 09 to the FOH all the time and it's really hard for the FOH guy to mess it up. Just bringing the levels up usually does it. Obviously there are still variables from one room to another but nothing major.

It's interesting that the Palmer boxes are widely used in the pro circuit but almost never in the club circuit, where it would probably be even more useful.
