Laying the Wood!
This might be the meanest punchiest tone I’ve ever recorded. No secret ingredients here Altho I did try a mic combo I’ve never tried and that definitely will be used again which was the Beyerdynamic m201 and the Shure sm7b. Each on their own speaker. Everythin in this is “EVh”. The 5153 el34 100 watt. All straight in. 2 tracks on the red and center track on the blue. Which really is one of the punchiest channels I’ve ever played Thru. It really hits like no other. Micing the Evh Celestions in the 4x12 I made. The guitar is my Wolfgang which of course I pieced to together with parts I accumulated but it’s the one “true” EVH model, neck, body and pickups. But I have done some other mods to make it play and sound better and I wanted one “master” Wolfgang, and I’d seriously put this one up against any…
Anyway it’s got a punch and “wood” to the tone that I remember getting a bit with the jp2c but this feels next level. I’ll post a quick clip of just the guitar buss out of a mix. And then then full mix. The git only mix is raw. No processing. The mix has a little of course
Also want to add besides the drums, nothing is DI or software tones. The bass was the tech 21 Steve Harris. Been using the bass plugins lately and once I go back to the analog/hardware, it sounds better to me. Even the bit of effects I used. Around 1:55 there is an overdub guitar which has reverb and I dialed in the my RV6 and played it with the verb and just cut 2 tracks to get the stereo. And call me crazy but even THAT sits better. .. only EQ and compression done in my DAW

shit kicks ass
Re: Laying the Wood!
Thanks dudeS! Im seriously pretty over the moon with the overall sound. I’ve been working towards “sumthin” with all these songs. And for sure when you “get there” you just sorta know it. It hits on all the right places for me and even survived all 3 other sound sources I listen to music! So it’s def a path forward to finish the rest of these recordings. Most of the songs have been written so all I’ll have to do is go back and re-track em. Also re-learn em too. Lol. Sucks not being in a real band with these songs . I don’t have much reason to revisit em besides for recordings.

And double thanks. I always felt I could double m, triple or quadruple track fast and extreme rhythms at a pretty high level. But with how punchy this tone is, I really wanted to see HOW punchy it could be by not letting any little “slippage” thru. I pretty much always keep a standard but I knew with THIS tone it’ll really be sick to have em locked down

I wish Metallica sounded like this.

Haha, I’ll take it but besides maybe 4-5 songs in their catalog they never quite reached that sort of speeds. But yeah, if Metallica made an entire album Of fight Fire with Fire, Damage Inc and Dyers eve, that’d be sumthin!!
Here’s a 2nd track I re-did with the same setup.

Feel pretty good about the tone of this one too. The bass is still the original bass and not the one with the extra grind like in this first track. Not sure if I’ll change it but I’ll certainly revisit it too and see which one I like
