Multi NAD!

Post by JCDenton6 »

Haven't been around in a bit but oh my... Peavey Ultra Plus, XXX, EVH 5150 Iconic and the EVH 5150 III Stealth 100w :rawk:

I didn't plan on buying 4 amps within a month period but I saw them pop up with decent pricing so I jumped on them.

I really dig them all but I have to say that the Stealth reigns supreme over all, it's just such an aggressive pissed off sounding amp and it's what I've been chasing tone-wise for the longest time.

I'll do this amp justice soon but I have a little snippet from our last practice, just tracking a few songs and my bud recorded this on his phone.

Thank you!, so far I after A/B-ing with the same tubes, I feel they're in the same ballpark sitting next to each other as the XXX is the successor to the Ultra Plus, but even though the XXX has more gain built into the circuit, it has some smear in the tone compared to the Ultra Plus, which seems clearer and also raspier in the mids.

Ultra Plus is also darker but that can be remedied by disconnecting the reverb tank which makes the reverb control act as a presence control

It also doesn't like Tung Sols in the V1 spot, I was getting some noise, whereas it's fine in the XXX, Must be higher voltage compared to V1 in the XXX?

Great haul man. The Ultra Plus is one of my all-time favorite amps. I need to buy another one eventually. But I like every amp in your haul lol
I haven't had the chance to really spend time with the Iconic yet but I've played it at stores and liked it.
The Stealth is indeed a monster. I've been using an EVH 50w recently and it's quickly becoming my main amp.

XXX is awesome too. Like I said, awesome haul!
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

Hell yeah, thanks man. The Iconic is my number 2 for sure, it hangs with the others and has more of that low mid clarity that I like just like the Stealth, and has healthy low end, but can get a little tighter when not using the burn switch on the red channel, but I like the burn

Thanks Billy and cheers, I've been wanting an Ultra Plus for the longest too. They each have their own qualities that I dig but the Stealth is something special, and I think I'm good on amps for a long while now :D

Thanks Raf, and you definitely influenced my purchase, awesome clips and vids of the Stealth too :hi5:

Nice haul and cool tone, but is your guitar a little outta tune? It seems a little off on those power chords, or
maybe it's just me??

Thanks man, yeah it was in tune before I started playing and definitely went a bit flat on the A and I didn't catch it until that part of the song, I have a heavy right hand lol

Didn't end up using that take after that, I need to do a real playthrough of this in the near future.
