Sold some crap & bought a new toy

Post by Riffraff »

This came today.

I haven't had a chance to even try it yet. Looking forward to checking it out in the wee hours tomorrow morning.

Obviously I'm interested in exploring it's modelling ability but just as interested in using it for effects only with my rack preamps and 4 cable with my tube amps.

Congrats man, yeah the effects alone are worth the price of admission. I used the FX8 for a while and it was an incredible unit. This is probably the Fractal product I'd be likely to try since it's very reasonably priced.

The 3 footswitches could be limiting but that's simple to expand with any midi foot controller.

It's so fkn good and is exactly what I was looking for in a do it all box for recording.

It's deep AF and there's A LOT to explore in this which is going to be really fun.

It’s an amp modeler. The FM3 is a scaled down version of the AxeFX 3. Same modeling engine too. A friend has one he uses for recording. It’s a pretty sweet sounding unit for that.

Yeah, that's right. The FM3, FM9 & AXE-FX III all have the same amp & effect models & cab IRs. The difference is the form and level of DSP. The more DSP the more stuff you can run at once. The FM3 has more than enough for me.

I spent some time this morning trying different amp & drive pedal models while clicking through different presets and scenes to get the lay of the land. There's so damn much in this thing. All the new sounds definitely inspire new riff ideas. This is going to be a lot of fun.

thats just it with me and why i like having so much gear, i like picking any random guitar/pedal/amp/cab and just start playing whatever comes to mind around that tone, its where the majority of my riffs come from. a modeler makes so much sense, yet dosent make sense for me either cause i have so damn much gear now lol. this is probably more than i need, im looking for something i can put on my living room table and scroll through amps as im watching baseball and jamming late at night, i am kinda interested in the toneX though

The FM3 is nice. I have had one for awhile now. I think I use it more than my tube amps lately. Its just easy to have sitting on my desk and just turning it on and jamming for a bit.

Very nice! Been tracking with the 9 and it is just super easy to dial up a Boogie model and do some riffing through the studio monitor \m/

I can't see the pic but assuming its an FM3 congrats! I use mine for quick set ups at home mostly but i have used it for gigs where setup time is very limited. It sounds great. I made a dual footswitch for it so I can have 5 scenes to switch between per preset. I have a hard time with 4 cable. The "loop" is set up oddly. The output2 seems prone to clipping before i have enough level to drive the amp input. Its really good just not for me in the sense that there are too many things to adjust and the interface is terrible. The Helix is much easier to use for me and sounds just as good IMO.

A few things I learned about Fractal stuff.

1. I hate that i have to use a hum buster cable, but it absolutely makes a huge difference.
2. I hate the way the delay mix works.

Wait wha? Don't you have a MarkVII and a Badlander with the built in loadboxes? Does the Axe sound better thru monitors?
