Favorite Sweetwater Rep for Guitar Purchases?

Post by thisguy »

I've never bought a guitar from Sweetwater before and want to be sure of what year model I'm getting. I haven't bought anything from Sweetwater so I don't have anyone I work with.

I don't think you can pick and choose your rep. You just have to deal with it, and hope it's a cool person.

Pretty sure they post the serial number of every guitar for sale. Check the code. I'm sure you can decipher a date.

Oh. I've seen people ask before so I figured you could.

I just go on their website and get what I need. If I have questions I ask here lol
I don't like the assigned rep thing SW does. I told my rep not to worry about calling me or texting me every time I make a purchase.

It’s a bit annoying. I ordered some 25 dollar headphones, and get a call shortly thereafter. I’ve only answered once in the 10+ years

Turns out it's sold out most places except for small retailers on Reverb but I'd like a good return policy just in case.

Sam Ash had a used one on Reverb so I sent a message and it's supposed to be a 2023 someone purchased and returned without ever opening the box. It was $250 off the new price so it could turn out to be a good deal.

The guitar is an Ibanez JSM20-bkl. (John Scofield model)

Just checked and the last time I bought a guitar was in 2016!!!

Slightly slower pace than some you guys! LOL!

He worked for SW? I just thought he and JT were the leads of the largest Limp Bizkit fan club still around.

Let me tell you a little story. I've wanted to see these jerks for DECADES. DECADES. Never had a chance that was closeby. Like 2 weeks from now (and I am screaming at the top of my lungs internally on this) these jackbags just scheduled a show an hourish away. As I go to a pair of gigs my little cover band booked on that same day OVER A YEAR AGO. Oh my lord I am LIVID.

Dude I’d fire your band at this point. How dare they not know Fred and Co’s schedule

Definitely sounds like something that could be worked out between a few Fireballs, Tootsie Rolls, and the occasional Laffy Taffy here and there :shake:

This thread took on a life of it's own LOL but here's an update:

I got the guitar and it looked unopened like Sam Ash said so that's good. The fretwork was NOT great. A number of high frets and even though the action was a little high there was a lot of fret buzz so it was basically unplayable. Some of the frets were rough and obviously hadn't been polished. Bending strings was like running them over a cheese grater just not that bad. Everything else seems good on it though.

Since I had saved money by buying a return I had already mentally prepared myself to put the savings into a setup if needed. I dropped it off yesterday to have it Pleked and set up. Down the road I'll do a better review.

These guitars are cool. It should play great after the initial setup. Every time I buy a guitar, I budget for at least a fret level.
I haven't always needed one, actually, most guitars were fine out the box but I'm always prepared for it just in case.
