Another Echoplex incoming - EP-2 Content

Post by mortatone »

Found this one on reverb. Seller says the delay effect works but that it's scratchy and noisy. Also it's been modded to have an on/off switch (I'm guessing it's a bypass switch and an echo/loop switch, which might be sound on sound added to it? The seller doesn't know and I'm guessing he was just flipping it.

We talked a little about trading and that didn't go anywhere but he did reduce the price quite a bit so now it's on the way and should be here Friday :thu:

You can tell it definitely needs a good cleaning especially around that pinch roller

That's what I've always heard.

And can be accomplished by using a standard footswitch to turn off the echo. Not sure why someone would add a panel switch for that but I guess it's not surprising. We'll see what the modifications actually do when it gets here. Who knows, maybe they'll be useful :cup:

The EP-2 is here.

It IS crusty.

It operates about like the seller said. The delay works but it needs a good goin’ through. New tape and a very thorough ball washin’ will probably accomplish alot.

On the side of that added on switch housing it says “MEWPLEXFX LOOP MOD”. At least it’s labelled so I can find out exactly what it is, but I’m suspecting sound on sound like the EP-3 has.

So I just attempted to use an EP-3 as a boost and it doesn’t boost. It colors the sound for sure, with perhaps a bit less volume and no way to control it. It’s a great sound though, perhaps more accurately described as a fixed preamp. I just learned a little something by trying it and thought you’d be interested.

Now I gotta get the MXR Echoplex Preamp and compare it!
