Saw a pretty sweet Ibanez Vai today

Post by mortatone »

Looks like a fancy JEM but I guess it's not a JEM.

These aren't really in my wheelhouse but I love the color, pickup covers and level of detail.

Located at Total Entertainment in Daytona Beach FL (I have no personal affiliation).

Fixed the tag.

I like the color but these pickup covers look awful. Easy to remove though

My half Slav side loves gawdy maximalism. I’d rock that, but my cheap side knows my rfr rg550 is the same guitar with cheaper pickups.

What's with the hand-hold? Do people really walk around carrying those guitars like a briefcase?

No, that's just Vai being Vai. I give him a pass for his weirdness because there's a genius behind it. He's a bit like Zappa in that sense, which was his main influence growing up.You can't separate his quirkness from his music.

Have you seen his Hydra guitar? It's the ugliest guitar ever. Until he plays it. Then it makes total sense.

So there's a method behind his weirdness.
