Tell me about the Ibanez Artist

Post by GuitarBilly »

Especially the older models. I love the way they look but its been 20+ years since I played one.
Who here has one and how do you like it? Any years to look for/avoid?

I don't like the really ornamented ones, but the basic models look pretty cool. Kinda like a LP with extra upper fret access.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

I've got an Ibanez AR-50 just like the black one in the pic. I've had it since 1994. It was my first really good guitar. The super 70s? or whatever came with it are gone. I swapped for Dimarzios a long time ago. Its a very nice playing guitar. The neck is round but on the thinner side. If weight is a problem, it is not a light guitar. If i remember correctly mine weighs 10.2 pounds. It still neck dives like crazy. I have to use it with a canvas strap or at least a wide one. The bridge is difficult but not impossible to find parts for. The tiny slots at the top of the brass screws for adjusting action get destroyed easily. I got some stainless ones online years ago and they are a bit better. It still sounds great and plays like butter.

That's an issue. I will make sure I take a strap with me when I go to Atomic this week.

Yeah the older bridge can be an issue. The newer ones seem to have a standard TOM bridge though, so that's definitely easier.

I have a modern one (AR325) that I absolutely love; it's like the best parts of an SG and a Les Paul put together IMO.

I was hoping you would chime in, Any neck dive issues with yours?

Nope I don't have any dive issues with mine

It's probably my easiest playing guitar tbh; setup and fretwork is great and I like the neck; it's feels pretty similar to a Gibson 60's neck if I recall correctly

Needs moar pics

These days I'm rocking zebra 59 neck and seth lover bridge in it; had a Hellabucker in the bridge for a long ass time which was equally epic (in a different way)
