Jamming thru the All EVH rig

Post by EndTime »

Not that that is anything special.. But no song, no riffs. Just jamming away like I do nearly everyday. To me Noise is music! hah. I love riffs and song structure as much as the next guy, but I also think just creating on the spot is prolly the most rewarding and cathartic that guitar and music give to me..

I did mic it up and one of the rare occurrences Logic froze on me. So no mic tone.. So its just room audio, but it honestly sounds pretty decent.. Definitely sounds like a 5153 and hopefully this is what Eddie would have wanted done with his gear!! or sumthin... lol

And yes, IM like Stevie Wonder when I play.. I can't sit still. Its funny when I do actual song playthrus and I concentrate on sitting more still for camera, I still end up moving way more than I thought.. But this is just jamming so I didn't restrain .. I may have been pretty high too! but that doesn't change things lol

So what is the rig?

I can see the amp and guitar but what are the effects? I think by "all EVH" you mean his signature, phaser, flanger, wah? And there is some delay there too, which one? Carbon Copy?

Yeah I guess not ALL. Lol. I have the guitar, amp and the cab is the one I made next to the PV but it has the Evh Celestions.

For Fx , I had my wah, which I rarely use, the Shaky Jimi Univibe and RV6 for my delay tones. I do have the Evh flanger and it’s amazing but it requires 18v and I’ve rearranged my board so I’d have to figure out what can go to use one of the extra power supplies. I need to find a home for it again tho cause it’s really that good.

Damn dude that sounds ridiculously good. Nice and fat while still cutting like a motherfucker.

You kinda have the same vibe as Billy when you're jamming, but with a darker/moodier style. The complex chords 4:20 in are fuckin sick. Crazy how articulate that rig is.

That’s a Dad joke. Lol. Unless I missed some inside meaning too!

Anyway, yeah it’s a cheap model. My first two vibes were the Original Deja-Vibe and then the MXR/Dunlop Hendrix series(or whatver it was called) Univibe. Both of those ruled. I foolishly sold the Deja-Vibe for some reason. Got the Hendrix vibe and eventually those ended up going way up in value. So because I was 2 for 2 in getting cool vibes, I figured I’ll take the money and buy something else. Which first ended up being the MXR regular Univibe. And it wasn’t anywhere near as good as the Hendrix one. Ok, I’ll fork out the dough for the newer version(at the time, mid 2000s I’d guess) DejaVibe. And that wasn’t the same either. And I went down a bit of a rabbit hole trying a bunch of vibes. Apparently that Bigger MD3(?) with the wah type pedal is supposed to be killer but I haven’t tried it and didn’t want to spend that much.

Anyway, none have ever been as good as the first 2 I mentioned. To me anyway.

So I looked around and people claimed this Shaky Jimi is legit… I’ll say, it’s ok. It has one really good setting I like. I find any faster rate setting on it sound too, idk. Too rigid or sumthin. I don’t like fast vibe settings much anyway, but with slower rate settings and darken it a bit with the Hue control it can get pretty close to what I want in a vibe. And for the cost it’s definitely a cool pedal. Plus it has the chorus switch as well, but I don’t like that over my Waza CE2. So I rarely use it

“Jamming stuff”? You never just “play”? Sometimes it’s more riffy but many times it’s just keep playing, keep “searching” for ideas, or
Simply let loose with out any thoughts. That’s why I have somewhere close to 600 riffs on my voice memo now. Lol. Instead of stopping and maybe fleshing an idea out, I record it and keep playing. Then I 99.3% of the time will never revisit it. Lol. But I am making an effort to go back and listen and erase shit that doesn’t immediately connect and make some sort of note in the title for any that do connect. Problem is some of these “memos” are 13 minutes long! Hah

Thanks man. There wasn’t much here I’d actually use, but it was a fun night anyway. And this was just a few minutes of it. I think sometimes I just need to learn to write more unconventional songs like a jam session. Cause I do have a LOT of shit, that’s fun to play and can be interesting but I don’t have a great avenue to use it beyond just playing and having something in life I love to do! And for now, and really since I started really playing, that’s enough

I haven't in some time. Not like it used to be. There's always some bullshit distracting me or something.

Awesome playing and tone as per usual. Definitely heard some Trey Azagthoth influence in there.

Yeah it’s in there. Although, I really have distanced myself from that comparison. To some degree, I think I sorta capture the same feel he does cause I used to hear MA comparisons on shit that I’m like, “How are they hearing MA in that?”

But in another note, the current MA 2nd guitarist, sure he’s a fool dude and all, but I would be 10x better fit in MA!! Haha. Not even kidding. I just don’t feel Dans solos do anything good for the band. He’s got some offensive sounding vibrato. Lol. And idk, I just don’t see him as a good fit. Destructhor as weird of a fit he was, his solos still worked pretty good and he clearly could fucking nail the rhythms. Rutan obviously being the one who added the most. And Brunelle was more like Trey back in the day, but his chaotic solos were equally as crazy as Treys! I loved that old sound. I would fit somewhere between Brunelle and my style. Enough, fantasy land for the day. Lol.
