Looking forward to the JCM800 clips but I'm not sure how your 1987X could be topped. The clip you posted is as good as it gets and is going to be hard to beat that incredible rock tone.

Awesome, man! I have not seen a 2203X in quite some time…let alone one that someone was willing to sell at a reasonable price. Definitely a solid reissue, though!
This amp sounds great. And the master volume on these Reissue amps is much better than the originals so this amp can actually be used without an attenuator and still sound good.
I need to really open it up at practice but I don't think it will sound better than the 1987x to be honest. That amp is hard to beat. But it's very close. And I think it's a more useful and realistic amp than the plexi. We'll see.

Billy, do you have an iPad/iPhone and a guitar interface for it?
you should try the (free) TONEX app ... all the Marshalls you can imagine (and everything else). the stock presets are crap of course, but there's some really great captures to download (Big Hairy Guitars, Amalgum, and just randos that get posted).

man I don't get a long with the digital stuff. I am sure it's cool but it's not for me. And unfortunately I don't own any Apple products. All windows/android here.

yep, 60s/70s, 80s, 90s and 00s/10s. 50 years of Marshall represented

i get that on both counts, but its cheap, easy to use, and depending on the capture, sounds really good. i also hate Apple, but have an older ipad for some stuff ... otherwise all Android/Windows for me.
As much as I don't need you to burn all of your money on our behalf, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on one of those Legendary Tones Hot Mods in these amps.

For science?
I had one in my Runt so I am familiar with them. Honestly, they sound great and do what they claim to do really well. They add a ton of gain without changing the core tone of the amp or adding too much noise, it's a great product.
But I am not a very high gain player to begin with. I play loud and hit hard so it may sound like I have a lot of gain going but I actually don't. For illustration, I run the gain at about 7 on the JCM800. About 2 on the DSL Lead 1(not 2 o'clock, 2 on the dial). The Plexi is run at about 4. The Runt was about 1/2 way on the gain. It's not a lot of gain at all. Obviously I use a SD-1 to boost it for solos but once again the gain is turned way down on the SD-1 it's more of a clean boost.
So this mod do what they say and do it well but it's just wayyyyy too much gain for what I play.

Can confirm Billy's rig is far lower gain than I thought by a lot. Kinda taking the Yngwie approach and using clean technique to make it sound more aggressive.
Hopefully Billy doesn't also take the Yngwie approach to weight management.

I've already had enough donuts that the shed over my tool justifies handicapped parking.
