Bored.. Jensen Tornado 65 speakers (Clip)

Post by EndTime »

I bought these a little while ago. Just to try sum thing different. Altho now most Jensens are well over $200 a pop.. But they are fairly different and still feel like its a quality tone..I chose these based on their online clips which are honestly pretty decent.. I chose the ones that had the most Scoop! As I wanted sumthin like that.. But they were honestly more scooped than I thought they'd be when I initially loaded em up.. Which was in a 4x12 in an X pattern. Ive sense moved these to a 2x12 I made and They definitely shine in this.. Sounds as big as a 4x12 for sure.. Not as scooped sounding and this is basically the first clip I ever did solely with The Jensens..

I used my Evh 5153 on the blue channel boosted with an SD1.. Definitely dialing in Thrash tones.. I used a 57/421 mic combo.. I basically made this up 5 minutes before recording.. SO.. lame it is..

Damn! That sounds pretty great! Definitely a little more scooped, and smoother in the mids than your usual stuff. But I don't think that's a bad thing at all. Sounds great!

I was pleasantly surprised! Not that I had much doubt but the initial tests seemed way different than I am used to or generally dial in. . But this is the first time I put a little bit of effort and needed to break out the 2nd mic to get there, but thats just part of the process. Some shit works with anything on the grill other shit needs a little bit different mics and mic technique to draw it out.

Sounds much better than I ever would have thought. I figured these to be more of a bluesy or clean Twin type speaker.

I would say it’s best use is a very mid heavy amp. The 5153 el34 has some very up front mids , so I wanted suMthin that would reign it in a bit and this works well. The Jensen site has pretty good clips for each speaker. The “metal” clips are at least a true high gain amp. Sounds like maybe a recto unboosted or sumthin but it’s still a good tone to make a choice. So it honestly helped a lot to pick the one I wanted cause the clips were fairly accurate to what It turned out to be. There are 3 or 4 speakers they have that are all pretty good sounding to me. But this one the Tornado 65 is def the most scooped. Maybe not best for other amps. Also should mention these are neodymium mag speakers. So they are only a few lbs each. It’s definitely weird having speakers this light. They feel like feathers!

I've spent hours listening to those clips since you sent me the site, trying to decide if I want to buy some. The metal clips do sound great for this purpose.

It’s a brutal tone at least! Lol. In the old school death metal kinda way. But that’s all good to me..
i even listened recently cause the Electric Lightning does seem cool too, but way more modern. But honestly the prices for them have gone up so much. Maybe if some dealer has em listed on Reverb/EBay for awhile and allow offers, one can make a man offer to get em at where they bought em at…. Maybe. Actually I just saw mainly these Tornado line of speakers were the ones that went up the most. The electric lightning is still $135 at Stewmac

The Electric Lightning is the one I was looking at after seeing the prices on some of the others lol. $135 is pretty good, and I almost bought a pair a handful of times haha.

Sounds killer! I haven't tried the Tornado stuff yet, but the Tornado 65 and 80 are what caught my ears.

I have been on the Jensen train for a few years now, as I wanted something different too. I have tried several of them and liked them all. I have Raptor 100s in my 4x12 FatBottom, C12K2s in my Budda 2x12, Electric Lightnings and Nighthawks in an X pattern in a Yamaha 4x12, Nighthawk 40s in an Avatar 4x12, and want to put my P12Qs in my open back Budda 2x12. I really love their sound, and like that they give me something different than Celestion and Eminence (not that they are bad by any means, just very popular). I still think the Fane Medusa line are my favorite speakers, but the Jensen top end reminds me of the various Fanes I have used.
