Poll: how often do you practice?
I mean actually practice not just jam or noodle.
Talking about running scales, exercise, learn new songs or licks, sight read etc
I'm home all day these days and don't really work most days ( my only job is to teach guitar a few hours a week) so I play pretty much all day but in terms of actual practice I do it about 45-60 minutes a day...

Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
Well I’m answering over an hour. Cause I never “noodle” around. I don’t practice scales or shot either. But when I play l, I’m playing. I’m just jamming and improvising 90% of the time but it all has a purpose. I’m catching anything cool and recording it or working it further. Maybe I’m running songs I want to keep fresh and see what new May happen. Etc. So my time on the guitar is Involved. Sometimes it’s aimless and I simply want to play but most days I wake up wanting to play and see what comes of it. It’s 12:54 am right now and I just got done playing since 930. I was working on tunes, trying to create and just going off. I’m playing these days like I did when I was in high school and really grinding and learning. I still love it and wake every day with music on my brain. So to me that’s “practice”, cause if I didn’t play at all I certainly wouldn’t be playing like I do now.

I put down a few times a month, because I don't always practice with I stay up late, but when I do it's the standard stuff (scales, picking patterns, and chords)

Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
Actual practice? Never. I got to where I am with guitar mostly by just putting on CDs back in the day and noodling around until I got it close enough.
My Dad taught me open/cowboy chords, and the sort of "standard" barre chord shape, and Judas Priest got me the rest of the way

Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
It varies from once to a few times a week, to maybe every once in a blue moon. When I have a “band” i practice more. I have a “band” now. We are in the process of finding a drummer.

Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
kinda depends.... if I have gigs and songs to learn it could be about an hour every other day depending on how well I know the songs, then rehearsals would be 3-5 hours on a Saturday.... the last 3 months we've had no gigs so it's been maybe 15 minutes a week grabbing a guitar to see if I remember a lick or solo and making sure I still have it under my fingers. We have some gigs coming up in the next couple months and we set to have our first rehearsal this weekend, so I have about 8 songs to learn/revise for that session, so I'll be putting in some time this week lol
Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
Yeah, kinda depends for me lately. I have been pretty unmotivated because my band has been pretty unmotivated, and I have a lot of other shit going on the last little while that's sorta been difficult to overcome and get in the right headspace. Most of my playing these days has been in little 5-15 min spurts of just nonsense. Though, it's not all wasted. I have noticed my right hand has been getting a little faster and tighter since I put a guitar in D standard...sometimes just different tunings change how I am playing...drop B is so fucking low and chuggy that I end up getting stuck in that realm, but higher tunings I tend to find I do more galloping and right hand kinda stuff, so I guess it just depends. A couple of years ago, I did have a hair up my ass to actually improve my playing, so for about 4-5 months I was doing some exercises and scales every day for about 30 min. Helped a lot at the time, but sorta dropped off since then because I don't really play that way on my own. Probably should try to get back into it, considering lead stuff is definitely my weak point and needs improvement.

Who the fuck has the time to do all that shit? I'm lucky if I get a guitar in my hands once a week. Too many love interests.

Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
8 hours a day

Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
I'll call it under an hour, but the daily thing is usually 30 minutes of songs... Like a short band practice.
Then I'll work on sections of whatever I am writing any day I have time. So still songs, just slowed. I miss having 8 hours a day to play, just too busy... But even when I could, songs...
Maybe a few little things here and there that are particular licks just to help my hands, but not really the sit down and do scales, arpeggios, etc up and down.

Practice? Somewhere between rarely and never. I'm also 45, so I know what I know and ain't trying to learn any new tricks.
I spend 3-8hrs/week in rehearsal/gigging. I only play outside of that if I'm learning new material.
I find playing by myself kinda boring.

If you can't play good, play loud.

A few times a week but never scales.
For me, noodling is practice! I noodle as one way to come up with new songs.
I also like improvising leads along with the radio and learning riffs from pedal demo vids.

Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
I play every day and there are always scales involved. They are pretty much reflexive at this point. The thing that has done me the most good is playing my Martin 000-18 almost exclusively. Having a great acoustic that I am rabid over has made playing my electrics feel like childs play.

Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
I jam to YouTube videos pretty much every day. I also try to woodshed a few hours every week, working from the pile of books I have and online lessons.
Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
A little bit everyday, but my time is split between guitar, bass and synths.
Re: Poll: how often do you practice?
Never. I bought a D-clone so I can say I just play avant-garde jazz like Kaiser. Easiest way out.
