Beato interview with Robert DeLeo

Post by Thurston »

I always thought this guy was a great bass player and looked cool doing it but never heard him speak. Had no idea how much he contributed to the STP songs! Interesting guy and an awesome interview highly recommend.

As always Rick Beato is the man. He recently interviewed Butch Vig which was also fantastic

As a bassist, Interstate Love Song is one of the more challenging yet fun songs to play.

SRP was 1 of the best bands of the last 30 years, they were called STP "ripoffs" early on and then HAMMERED peeps with their second CD which kicked some real azz

He is a great and creative bass player and the 4 of them had some magic together and hes actually semi underrated as a background singer, on some of those great harmonies you can hear him, a small but important piece of Stone Temple Pilots sound IMO

Hot damn they were a great band
^ Good deals with Glizard (ADA), electricdreams (Vetta) Fat Lou (Splawn) Tubesteakfortone (Marshall 3203, Riot pedal) agreed (Hafler-Radial) twisty571 (Mosvalve 962) Orbis Mortis (egnater) ~Abstract~ (JC amp) jn062181 (AXE - FX) ^

That was one of the more entertaining interviews I've seen in awhile. In some ways his stage persona always seemed a bit weird to me, but in that interview he comes across as really authentic and really into music.

I watched that interview a few days ago and have to say it was great! Very interesting! I never knew the extent Robert contributed to the song writing in STP.

Watched this a couple of days ago and it was great. I also had no idea how much he contributed to the writing of the songs outside of the bass parts. Sounds like it was a real collective effort with the band writing the songs and explains why they were so great.

For me, STP stands above all the other "grunge" bands of that era. From the interesting chord voicings, to the bass lines, to Weiland's vocal melodies...everything they did was top notch.

Would it be fair to say after all these years that they were a great rock band? You know, instead of lumping them in with grunge as most magazines did back in the day?

I love STP... one of my favorite bands growing up, and the DeLeo brothers were huge influences on me. Robert's bass playing has always been top notch. My childhood best friend played bass, and watching him learn the STP songs really gave me a deep appreciation for the band.

That was a great interview. He's an interesting dude, and a fantastic bass player, and apparently no slouch on guitar either. My band does a bunch of STP, and I really enjoy learning the ones with the more interesting chordings. Interstate Love Song is probably my faves.
