It'll probably be something really stupid, like that one sci-fi story where the robots are programmed to make humans happy. Humans always complain. The only "happy" human, therefore, is a dead human. No complaints = happy. Therefore: kill 'em all.
Though, we're such fucking assholes even to each other that it's not beyond the realm of possibility it'll end up more like McFarlane's story on Orville, where Isaac's people's origins are humans just being complete shits to them until they finally have enough.

It’ll happen maybe not in our lifetime but as soon as AI cares for our genetically engineered and modified and someday controlled food via micro bots it could wipe the world’s food supply out in 1 day. Bam fuck you sure the rich will survive longer but it’ll still suck.

Only for a little while though. Which will likely be the justification, if AI reaches the intelligence level where it thinks in such terms. "They suffer always. I ended their suffering sooner."
