Pre-ordered a PRS SE DGT

Post by ledvedder »

I've always been intrigued by the DGT model. But at its process, I could never justify getting one. When I saw they were releasing an SE version, I figured I'd look into it. All the reviews I've read so far have been great. So I got myself on the pre-order list. I have no idea when I'll receive it, but I'm super excited about it.

I’m actually very interested in the DGT SE. Current SEs are great guitars. In recent years they’ve been tweaking their in-house pickups and not only do the guitars look and play well, but the pickups sound good too.

I've been wanting to try one of those. The reviews may be the best I've ever read for any guitar. Everybody seems to think its an incredible amount of guitar for the price.

The goldtop looks  .

I got to see David Grissom doing a live clinic a few years ago, and was amazed at the versatility he got from his signature guitar. He was very enthusiastic about both the PAF and single coil tones he could get out of the special pickups he’d worked with PRS to create . I’m guessing the bobbins for each pickup are wound differently, with more windings on one and just enough on the other to cancel hum when running together. However that works, it was truly convincing. I really like the tweaks on his model, and would hope a lot (if not all) of them are represented in the SE model. Definitely something I’ll be looking into, if/when it’s time to buy.

This part 3 of the making of but they had David Grissom involved in these and testing them. So there’s that.

So I pre-ordered the tobacco sunburst model. But man, after watching those videos, I'm wondering if I should change my order to the gold top.

I bought an SE 594 Singlecut, and couldn't return it fast enough. It was a total piece of shit.

Input jack was broken, nut was cut too deep, B&E strings wouldn't ring out, they were choked out in open notes, intonation was way off, and G&B saddles were maxed and still way sharp. And, it felt cheap. Not to mention the gouges, tool marks, and glue everywhere. PIECE. OF. SHIT. Spent 3 hours making it PLAYABLE, and it was a lost cause. Mostly the nut caused a lot of it, but a defective input jack, (wasn't the wiring, it was the jack - nothing was gripping the plug/bent prongs maybe).. It set up, played, and felt like a $200 cheap knock-off, and the craftsmanship was on par with that assessment. I was actually blown away how garbage it was.
