GWAR has literally had maybe 100 actual active "members" in it (including "slaves" and such), so it's not easy to show it all, but it was a fantastic doc. I even got teary-eyed in one spot. Highly recommended

I’m really looking forward to watching this.

Nope. 7.5+-ish/10? Little slow on the start but turned out great. Without any spoilers; I think how Peele did what he did was great. He is definitely channeling his inner Spielberg/Shamylan on this and it fits his style to a t. Great cast, great dialog and title of the movie is super fitting. I like all of Peele's stuff. He has definitely had much heavier moments in his other two films. This one was a lot lighter weight in that regard. He is great at "reading the room" in his films. Whether it's popcorn stuff like this or popcorn stuff with some nassssty undertones like Get Out and Us. Just a great filmmaker. Good stuff.

JiveTurkey shall be lashed with a wet noodle fifty times for putting "Spielberg" and "Shyamalan" in such close proximity.

Peele's movies are decent to me, but I don't think they're as brilliant as most seem to think. The big exciting reveals always hit me like, "Yeah? And?" While everybody else runs around screaming holding their genitals like they just discovered them. If everybody (Hollywood) would shut the fuck up about him already, I'd probably be fine with his movies. The worship of every move he makes makes me feel very cautious, since nothing can be as good as they attempt to convince us his films are.

Just like nothing can be as garbage as most seem to think Seth Rogan films are.

Except Green Hornet. Fuck that trash.

Ahh there is a clear line of inspiration there. Whether you like M. Knight or not. Same with JJ and really any other director that is probably in our age bracket. Peele might be a little younger? Not sure. I wouldn't say any of his movies have been brilliant so much as clear in addressing and messaging of social issues within the framework of horror. And I think he does good with that. I also think it makes them tougher to criticize without conflating the quality of the messages with the quality of the movies themselves. Hard to separate.

Spielberg has done few good things in the last 20+ years. But his last great film was probably Private Ryan. Despite me never having the desire to watch it. That's a long stretch.

Prey - this is like a prequel to Predator , set in 1700 in the Greatplains.I was expecting it to be shit , but I thought it was actually pretty good, I’d say it’s a 7.5.
Definitely much better then any of the Aliens Vs Predator movies .

GRAY MAN -8/10
nightflameauto wrote:Gray Man - 4-5 / 10

A passable popcorn flick. Fun to watch Chris Evans play the morally bankrupt type for a change. He should have roles like this more often. Literally the best part of the film. The rest is a literaly Hollywood checklist of shitty action movie tropes. Little girl with a disease? Check. Reluctant badass hero buddy? Check. Dad's a lost soul? Check. Nobody developed beyond "personality trope needed?" Check.

I'd kill for a movie with characters that feel like they matter to anybody. Maybe even to themselves? While Gray Man plays with the premise to the point of even having the checkbox filling bad-dude in charge SAY they don't matter, he was so bland as a character that his words felt even more meaningless than the characters themselves.

If I had the opportunity, I'd love to have the director and writers in front of me so I could shake my head at them and say, "You can do better. Your mother and I are so disappointed."

Basically, I agree with all of the criticisms, but I enjoy mindless action flicks where the good guys where white hats, and the bad guys black hats.

I did think that Billy Bob Thornton did a pretty shitty job acting, and I can't understand how he got an award (too lazy to look it up).

The main thing that was shocked about this movie was that there was literally "not even close to" nudity/gratuitous beach or bar scene with naked grinding girls. What's happening to movies!

A buddy of mine that lives in Hollywood was in the same bar as BBT. He and his group started dissecting BBT's movies. My buddy came to the conclusion that he phoned in everything after Friday Night Lights and Chrystal. He got up to pee and realized that BBT was listening to every word. So he tipped his hat to him and winked. What are ya gonna do? :idk:

OK, well, I guess I need to see Fri Nite Lites & chrystal.....don't remember them.....

and BTW, I empty my nose in your general direction!

Prey - take away the beautiful, atmospheric scenery and it's a 4/10. The acting, in the beginning, was just really bad. I'll forgive the awful Sharknado quality CGI, as it was a very low-budget movie. The new Predator design was bad. The story was better than anything that came out after the second movie (Not saying a lot there), but still just kinda meh.

Prey - :idk: / 10

While, as a Predator movie, it's got a decent enough story, there's a lot of elements working against it.

Rosa from Roswell is acting better here than she ever did in Roswell, where her primary "skill" has been looking numbly at the camera while other people around her do things. The men of the tribe being complete assholes is such a shock in this day and age. Oh my stars.

*ROLLS EYES*

It was entertaining, and certainly better than several other Predator afterthoughts. But I wouldn't be recommending it to anyone as a great film anytime soon.

I liked Prey for the most part. The bar for the series is so low that it is fairly easy to impress with anything at this point.

On the subject of movies with a message; They/Them. No/Nope is more like it.
