That does sound great and Ice T fits right in. My favorite Megadeth album will always be Peace Sells but I thought Dystopia was right up there with RiP. This new one could be a contender!

I like that Mave learned from the dumpster fire that was Super Collider, and put out two pissed-off albums.

If only Het and Lars would learn from this example, or that of Anthrax. Actually, Anthrax need to record a new album first.

The music sounds pissed off, but the lyrical cadence, tambre and performance sounds like it has the 'Bob Rock' treatment AKA it was made to be played on the radio. There's also something about the production, like there's a side-chain compressor on the mix that is triggered from the vocals, that pushes the entire mix down. Now, this is a normal automation technique for ducking guitars slightly to bring vocals forward in the mix, but it seems like its WAY excessive and pushes EVERYTHING down.

Maybe I'm being too nit-picky.

Overall, it definitely sounds like a step up from anything they've put out in the past 20 years for sure.

How much of it is Dave compensating for diminished vocal capacity, due to throat cancer?

I'm sure that had an effect on him. How could it not? Throat cancer is traumatic no matter how rich/famous you are.

So far I like Dystopia a bit better. The songs off this have been pretty ripping but also a victim of a fair bit of cut and paste. I will say Dave for the most part still has a great ear for it all. The Ice T bit in this could have been cooler and there is a drag at the end. Nowhere near his always present competition who think every new song they make deserves 8 minute run times when they are at best 4 minute songs. I continue to be amazed at Kiko and Dirk.
