Neither of them will ever measure up to Eastbound and Down
I didn't realize there was a new season of righteous gemstones out though, I'll have to catch up on that

I've watch the first 3 episodes.... it's WAY funnier and raunchier than I expected.....

but I wasn't expecting too much. Enjoyed the season overall. Seems like a season 2 is inevitable. The writing will have to step it up a notch, I don't find that kid particularly likable as a character

Finished up Yellowjackets. Was good generally speaking, though I am a bit confused on Jackie from where we started and where we finished.
Will see how things go next season with the symbol people. Not sure on that.
Watched the latest season of Afterlife with Ricky Gervais. Jesus. Great show; sad af. Excellent on a number of levels. If you are down with the sadness.
Finished up Yellowjackets too. I feel like this entire first season was basically just setup... but it's all good as long as they don't drop the ball. I enjoyed it all none the less. With the number of cliffhangers left I'm wondering if season 2 is suddenly going to be packed with stuff happening right off the bat, or if it will drudge along to set up for.... season 3

Finished up the available episodes of Mrs. Maisel. Holy hell, when Sophie cracked during the play it got BRUTALLY stupid.
Susie might be my favorite character. Her ability to snap off strings of 'fuck's at a moment's notice cracks me up every time.
Both sets of parents are . But holy crap do the Maisel's need a beating. Seriously. If I knew them in real life I would have to kill them on principle alone.
1 episode left in first part of S4 of Ozark Great so far. Slow burn but not too slow. Excellent score keeping the tension always there, too. It will be very cool to see how it all shakes out. 2 years from now when the second half drops

OMG yes. This show is wrapping up in an excellent way. It is going to be a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG wait to the 2nd half
Haven't watched the latest, but I've been cheering for Ruthy for a long, LONG time. I literally jumped to my feet and shouted like I was watching football when she tossed a bitch off the top of the boat.

I think you'll enjoy this season on that angle alone.

My wife and I are watching The Expanse again, currently in season 3.
One of the best science fiction universes ever conceived, and one of the finest examples of the genre ever filmed. It's a damn shame the final season got truncated.

The books are amazing as well.
The books are my favorite SciFi ever. The perfect amount of hard scifi.
A lot of scifi I read/watch feels like fantasy in scifi clothing. I much prefer something grounded.

Yeah, and one thing the show got really right was the communication devices that the people carry around on the show. They both look and give off the feel of a futuristic version the smartphones that all of us carry around right now. They clearly used the overall aesthetic of them and thought about how future tech would advance them. Makes the show and characters feel more relatable in that context. They're all carrying around these rectangles in their pockets to communicate, same as we do. Brilliantly done.

On a pretty much 180; after finishing up Afterlife; decided to give Derek a try. Another Gervais thing. Dude is like the greatest combiner of just loooooooooowwwwww brow filthy humor and extraordinary displays of humanity I have ever seen. One minute you are cracking up at stupid crap Kev is doing; then the next minute you are sitting there almost eating onion sandwiches because Derek's spouting his platitudes on life. Seriously; dude's comedic delivery is flawless (and his selection of cast mates who know how to deliver on their end); but his writing is impeccable as well. I always liked bits and pieces of everything I had seen of his but never cared to try the Office. Or the Steve Carrell version. Both this and Afterlife have a huge heart that makes the ridiculous comedy that much funnier when it hits. Highly recommended.

A lot of stuff billed sci-fi is actually space opera, where they toss the science out the window for the sake of the plot and the drama. I personally like both hard scifi and space opera. Sometimes I want something to tickle the brain with "how would that really work" and sometimes I just want to see spaceships, lasers, fights and peeps beating the shit out of each other. Plenty of room for both.
Started The Gilded Age on HBO. Holy fuck. This might be the most misrepresented show on television at the moment. It's sold as a period drama in 1800s New York, but the whole Odd Couple like situation between the two aunts and the subtle humor make it damn near sit-com laugh worthy about three quarters of the show with punches of drama tossed in between. First episode is long, but fantastically balanced.

Amos is one of my all time favorite characters and the show really gets him right.
