Went to the new Resident Evil flick over the weekend. Cinematography and overall look and vibe is EXCELLENT. Some bad CGI but dug it for the most part. I have played bits and pieces of the games on and off over the years but no huge allegiance to the existing storyline. I enjoyed some of the original RE movies as well (so no accounting for taste :cop: ). I thought this was a fun watch

Last Night in Soho: This was shot very well. Definitely some love to the original Susperia in terms of colors and feel. Not what I expected and slightly predictable, but I really enjoyed the feel of this movie.

Threads: 80's British take on The Day After, only it's way bleaker and way more focused on the after-effects of Nuclear war. Not a fun flick, but it was good.

Blood Red Sky: Hmmm. I dug it. Vampires on a plane. I guess I'm in.

We watched Soho sometime over these past few days. Visuals and plot were good in general. Kind of a run of the mill ghost story turned upside down. Which made it cool. Hot Fuzz is still my favorite from Wright.

Watched Pig yesterday on Hulu. Expected much more John Wick, but turned out to be a surprisingly good film; lack of graphically violent revenge not withstanding. Cage continues to do good work.

Venom 2: 6/10

If you dug the last one you’ll dig this one. Was worth it to me to see Carnage on the big screen.

I am on the fence on this for no real reason. We'll probably check it out at some point.

Venom 2 6/10.... if you're in to more "serious" comic book movies... this isn't for you... this was pretty campy IMO, but clearly on purpose... lots of slapstick comedy... some jokes made me lol for real, others got a chuckle or two.... far from a perfect Venom movie, but entertaining none the less with a very cool easter egg in the post credit scene

Well, I just saw this in the news:

"Red Notice," starring Israeli actresss Gal Gadot, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Ryan Reynolds is now officially Netflix's most-watched film of all time, surpassing the previous record-holder, "Bird Box."

and I thought it sucked!

Oh well, to quote H.L. Menken, "Nobody ever lost any money underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

Of course it sucks. It's Fast and Furious without cars has a baby with the worst unmade Indiana Jones sequel ever. I still watched it and was semi-entertained despite that fact

Spider-Man: No Way Home. Amazing, Spectacular and Sensational/10. I’m a huge comic dork and usually see most of these. Some of them are great some of them not so much. But most are usually solid. This was head and shoulders above the other 2 MCU Spider-Man movies and actually above most of the other non MCU Spider-Man movies (still haven’t seen Spider-Verse so not including that). Probably the best one since Spider-Man 2 with Tobey. The cast was stellar, the returning characters from the previous movies were excellent, and by the end of it, Tom’s Spider-Man is less the Stark prodigy and more his own friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

7/10 Nightmare Alley

I liked it a lot and it was gorgeous to look at, with beautiful shots, sets, and lighting, like out of an old comic. Guillermo del Toro makes colorful, dramatic-looking movies.

Much of it takes place in a carnival setting in the 1940’s. The trailers were mysterious, so I didn’t know what to expect. It’s a dark movie with zero laughs. Overall the script was kind of bizarre and the second half seemed to be all over the place, as if they needed to split the whole thing into two parts to flesh it out and let it burn a little more. I thought the ending was killer though.

The Matrix Resurrections (M.IV)

8/10?

Kinda hard to rate as I am/was a fan. Kinda like a few bands I grew up listening to - I’m gonna like ‘em regardless of what people think.

It was certainly NOT the mind fuck from 1999. And it was certainly entertaining to watch and not a waste of my time. I think one has to have really absorbed the trilogy to enjoy this one. Without it … it might be meh.

Spiderman was great. I think Ghostbusters has it slightly beat (with less effort on it's part) on the fan service front, though.

That first end credit scene is

Don't Look Up: This movie was not amazing or anything, but I was entertained. I do now understand why it gets the hate it does. Must be a political butthurt thing

Karen: I don't know why my girlfriend chose to watch this. She has really great taste in movies typically. This was awful. I see what they were trying to do, but awful script and awful acting.

New Spider-Man: 8/10

Nostalgia and the end of the current SM cycle, was decently good. I don’t get the people talking about this being the ‘best Marvel movie ever made’ but whatever, do you booboo

New Matrix: 7/10

Nostalgia again but this was sort of a mess. Was cool to see the two of them again, but it felt like a rehash and the story didn’t really go anywhere. I was entertained but it was lower level entertained if you get my drift…

The new Matrix movie is a mehburger and I say that as a huge fan of all three of the others. It was literally fan service on top of fan service with a little tiny pinch of twist just to keep it from literally being scene-for-scene reshoots of the others. Honestly, I couldn't make it through it. I've tried twice and fell asleep both times, and I never fall asleep while watching movies unless I've seen them a hundred times already.

The new Matrix was okay, better than I remember 2 & 3 being but nowhere near as good as the first one. Was kinda slow and was more of a love story than anything else. Even the Rage Against the Machine cover was kinda meh.
