Liked the concept and the actress does a good job in these kinds of roles. As well as being the front runner for the non-existent Popeye live action reboot. But a little too much A24 and not enough "hey how about we be scary" for my tastes. I think the visuals were cool and I did like the whole invisible man does the spirit world vibe colliding with the laws of physics. The ending was a little too quiet and ambiguous for me as well.

Started off A24 and ended up Blumhouse. Dumb movie, but I do like Rebecca Hall as an actress. Not her fault.

I feel like it tried to swing back to A24town at the end, though. In an unsatisfying way. She is a good actress.

Been watching a bunch of music documentaries.

Count Me In 9/10
The drummer’s version of It Might Get Loud minus the navel gazing. Basically, it is drummers talking about other drummers then putting on an absolute clinic of a drum circle. It also captures the pure joy of playing music. -1 for no mention of Neil Peart but +1 for Cindy Balckman Santana.

Hired Guns 8.5/10
Finally got around to watching this. The life and times of musicians hired to make named acts sound good. Equal parts joyful and depressing. Spoiler alert: Alice Cooper is the coolest guy in music and Billy Joel is the biggest asshole.

Get Thrashed 8/10
Chronicles the history of thrash metal. It basically tells the story of thrash through interviews (some old some new) with the primary actors. A fair amount of music, too. However, anyone into thrash has probably seen all of this before.

Sometimes I like to watch known to be terrible movies on whatever subscription service I have. Tonight was one such time. Watched the second Black Christmas remake from just a few years ago. Probably one of the worst pieces of garbage I've ever sat through. 0/10.

I cannot wait for the second. They got so much right in this one. And even the changes I was good with (namely Liet Kynes who was awesome!). Stellan Skarsgard is insidiously evil. Timothy Chalamet played a great Paul. Josh Brolin’s Gurney was great. And Jason Momoa’s Duncan was excellent. Hell the whole cast was on point. Great Piter DeVries too. So happy with this one.

saw it this evening...... I liked it... but... I did feel like they were cramming 10lbs of shit in to a 5lb bag and as a person that hasn't read the books or even saw the previous movie it felt a bit overwhelming THOUGH, I do think if they make the sequels more things will make sense on a 2nd viewing.

I always recommend watching the 1984 version anyway. I’ll always have a soft spot for the David Lynch directed movie. Bear in mind they’re trying to cram 10 pounds of shit into a 3 lb bag with that one. But it’s decent. You get the gist of the story and there’s some super campy performances that are worth the watch. But I’d wait until after you’ve seen the current one. Because with how the current one ends, you may not want to watch the 1984 version yet.

Watched a few over the weekend

Antlers: Been wanting to watch this one for a bit. It's been done for a while but they axed for the pandemic. Great cast; especially the main child actor. Kind of quiet and dark and really one of those gateway horror films. But in a good way moreso than a Blumhouse straight to Hulu turd sort of way?

No One Gets Out Alive: Creepy Netflix flick. Gal comes up from Mexico and because of her citizenship status; has to take refuge in a questionable house. Which turns into something even worse as time goes on. It's a Netflix film so I didn't expect much but it was very good. How it kind of pivots is great and what it pivots too is  Good stuff as well.

The Medium: Thai flick on Shudder. Fake documentary about a shaman whose niece ends up being cursed and what she goes through to deal with it. Little long but very good. Shaky cam but not too bad on that front.

Paranormal Activity Part 73: Next of Kin. Expectations were at 0 and I thought it was actually pretty d@mn good/10. Setup is good. Some great jump scares and cool atmosphere. Little bit of comic relief that was juuuuuuuust right. Only thing I would say is what I always do in these types of found footage things that end up much better than I expect is I wish there were other ways to cheat the rules of the subgenre and get better shots. When things finally go bonkers and the camera is just blasting around because it's a simulated go pro or whatever; it's too dizzying for me.

Otherwise; enjoyed it quite a bit.

The Last Duel 8.5/10

Ridley Scott political/war film set in 1300’s France. Written by (and starring) Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Matt Damon’s wife accuses Adam Driver of raping her. The story is told in three parts, each from different perspectives. The dynamics between sexes and classes adds another layer and depth to the story that is relatable now, centuries later.

It’s long but I was never bored because the time period is interesting to me and the acting was first-rate. It’s also quite gritty and stressful to watch, especially the intense fight scenes. I’m glad I saw it in the theater. Loved it.

Ha yeah dude man’s dyed his hair and brows. He plays an utter douchebag and is successful. I think Damon puts in some work here with his guy, he’s not exactly likeable but he’s definitely not the worst. The film’s got a lot going on.

Movie day cause why not.

Eternals: 7/10

Been a fan for a while, wanted to see it. Not the best for Marvel…I’d say it’s the weakest of them all. Still ok but if you’re on the fence just wait until it’s on stream.

No Time To Die: 9/10

Badass. Just total Bond shit, huge action scenes and I loved it.
