Anthrax 40 Year Doc Series
Good evening,
In celebrating 40 years as a band, Anthrax has been putting up videos on YouTube, diving into each of their albums. Each album is described in three videos, over the course of the week, and feature interviews with the current band, friends and associates in the business (I.e. Corey Taylor, Mike Portnoy, and Jon Zazula), and former members. The Fistful of Metal episodes featured Danny Lilker, Danny Spitz (who has been a regular thus far), and Neil Turbin. I had never heard Neil Turbin interviewed, but always knew that he had a very acrimonious relationship with Scott Ian and Charlie Benante, which meant seeing him on an Anthrax retrospective was all the bigger surprise.
This week, the third week, is all about Among The Living. I’m really looking forward to the episodes for Persistence Of Time.
Thank you.

Re: Anthrax 40 Year Doc Series
Episodes are fantastic. New one dropping pretty much every day.
Love that they had Neil Turbin and Dan Lilker in the discussion. Spitz, too.
Very much hoping to see Rob Caggniano and John Bush later in the series. It’d be Interesting to hear from Paul Crook and the other singer I can’t remember.

Re: Anthrax 40 Year Doc Series
Neil Turbin has been riding his anthrax dreams out here over the past few years. He can still hit the high notes.
As a person, the dude is a major hemmoroid. I can totally see all the negative stuff said about him from the band being true.

Re: Anthrax 40 Year Doc Series
Watched a couple and really enjoyed then. Sort of confusing as it seems like there are multiples for each record and I don't always get the notifications in the right order. The Spreading the Disease episode(s) was really a nostalgia trip for me. Took me back to like 8th-9th grade(?) and grabbing the cassette and loving it \m/
Imo; Neil Turbin is a terrible singer and Fistful is not good. Dan Nelson pooped on Frank Bello from all that I've ever read so he probably won't be making an appearance anytime soon

I sure am glad to hear they've come to their senses about State of Euphoria. That whole thing blew. Should have never happened.

I don't care how many people shit on State of Euphoria, I still dig some of those tunes. I won't argue that it's their best, by any means, because lord knows there's some filler bullshit, but it ain't the dumpster-fire some thrash bands somehow managed to spit out during the same time frame.
'Course, Anthrax is like pizza and sex. Even when it's bad, it's still good.

Agreed. There was some good stuff on there; though all I mainly remember now is Antisocial and Be All End All. I think that's when they were at the height of everyone either hating them for being goofy and wearing ninja turtles jam shorts and hawaian Run DMC shirts or just digging them for what they were. I enjoyed watching the I'm The Man episode where they admitting to ripping off the Beasties. I knew it!

Be All, End All
Misery (Height of my Stephen King douchebaggery)
Finale (the chug intro with the trailing off delays always gets me)
Antisocial
I do remember there being a ton of hate on their shorts, and then when they switched to wearing jeans all anybody would ask them about is why they stopped wearing shorts. WTF?
I haven't watched a single second of the doc series yet. I really need to, but my passive watching time is usually soaked up with far more important things right now. Like re-watching the Sleepaway Camp series and then the commentaries.

I heard Make Me Laugh on Sirius this AM. Wasn't too enamored with it. I actually dig the lyric slant and some of the grooves.

Re: Anthrax 40 Year Doc Series
Well, the documentary videos were released, as part of the 40-year celebration, culminating in a livestream, which ended an hour ago. I’m not sure this wasn’t pre-recorded, but good God, was it fun to listen to from Chicago to my house. It made the last bit of the longest drive I’ve had for work in a long time - Detroit to Cleveland, and then home to Madison - less of a battle. They played most of the big hits, but threw some deeper cuts, including Aftershock, my favorite song off of Spreading The Disease, and Skeletons In The Closet, my favorite off of Among The Living.
Sadly, no John Bush-era songs, but Chuck D Brought The Noise.
I’m now watching, from the comfort of my couch, and Scott Ian’s head is freshly shaven, for the event.
