So, this weekend I finally hooked up the audio interface I've had for months now, downloaded the 60 day trial of reaper and recorded me noodling to a drum track Killzone made. (It was the wrong one, but that really has no bearing on anything.)
Since I'm even more of a noob at recording than I am at playing guitar, which is still rough enough, I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible.
I used one of Lepou's amp sims and sort of used some cab impulses (or sims the terminology still confuses me) to hilarious tone results. Granted, I spent maybe 10 minutes tweaking those things in an attempt to make it sound good, but still, I have no idea what I'm doing.
THE QUESTION:
My JCM600 has a DI out which says is has speaker emulation. If i select the "Pre" option, that captures the signal before the power amp for silent recording. "Post" bypasses speaker emulation and the amp still produces sound.
If I'm understanding this correctly the "Speaker emulation" digitally emulates a cab so that I can just play my guitar/pedals whatever through the JCM plugged into my audio interface and it should sound a fair amount like it would in the room. Correct?
Then for the moment I can worry more about playing the stuff correctly than playing the stuff and trying to make it sound better afterwards.

Usually a speaker emulation on a amp is just EQ & not digital / usually it scoops out around 5K. In general speaker emulation is usually just EQ - however it is done.... digital, analog, etc...
The fact that Stephen appears from nowhere, is sentenced to death in an emotional public trial without anyone interfering at all and is then altogether forgotten as if nothing happened, is already suspicious.

I don't have any experience with a JCM 600 but it's worth a shot. Record it and see how it sounds.
My experience with simulated outs is limited to my AMT pedals and a Peavey Windsor Studio. The peavey was terrible and the AMTs meh. In all fairness I never used any effects with the AMT simulated out and I would think chorus or a bit of reverb would have helped.

look at an eq graph of your favorite speaker and eq your junk to mimic that.

Forget that the speaker emulated out even exists. Use the regular line out with impulses. Profit.

Have you heard my effort with impulses? I'm looking for quick, easy, and not 100% ass sounding atm.

Dude, that description fits impulses to a tee. It's pretty much just one extra step compared to recording the speaker emulated out directly, and sounds 10 times better.
